NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Kelly Clarkson opened up about why she is happy being single during a recent 'Studio Sessions' performance on Friday, July 24, at Caesars Palace as part of her Las Vegas residency.

The singer reflected on relationships, explained why dating no longer appeals to her, and joked about preferring the peace of being on her own. The comments come as Clarkson continues a busy year that includes new music and several major career changes.

Kelly Clarkson opens up about choosing to stay single

During her 'Studio Sessions' show at Caesars Palace, Clarkson addressed questions she often receives about her relationship status. “People are like, ‘Oh, why are you single?’ And I’m like, ‘First of all, there are a lot of people out here making single look real good,’” the talk show host told the audience, according to social media footage.

She continued by explaining that watching some relationships has reinforced her decision to remain single, “And if you didn’t really understand what I meant by that, it’s like you see relationships and you’re like, ‘I am so glad I’m going home alone.’”

The 44-year-old then joked, “You know what’s not happening in my house?” Clarkson also reflected on the challenges of maintaining a long-term relationship.

“If you are in a relationship, the hardest part I feel like is just keeping that fire alive and still dating,” she said, adding, “And, like, still making it feel magical and not monotonous.”

The 'Miss Independent' singer has kept her dating life private since finalizing her divorce from former husband Brandon Blackstock in 2022.

Blackstock, with whom Clarkson shared daughter River Rose and son Remy, died in August 2025 at the age of 48 after battling melanoma, an aggressive form of skin cancer. Before his death, she had already explained why she was avoiding dating.

Speaking during a Las Vegas show in July 2025, the 'Because Of You' singer said, “Dating can be very difficult, which is why I don’t.” Clarkson added at the time that dating “is hard anyway,” but becomes a “dumpster fire” when “you add a spotlight.”

Kelly Clarkson balances new music with career changes

Alongside her Las Vegas residency, which runs through August 15, Clarkson recently released her new single, 'I’d Be Lyin’', on July 17. She first premiered the song exclusively on her SiriusXM channel, 'The Kelly Clarkson Connection', on July 13 and described it as “very sarcastic and it was fun as hell to make.”

Explaining the meaning behind the track, she said, “So basically my new song, ‘'’d Be Lyin’', is about when you’re talking to someone, and it’s like, what you’re saying is somehow being filtered because it’s not what they’re hearing. And if I just leaned in and just said what they wanted to hear, I would be lying.”

She added that “the vibe in the verse is… it’s not like Prince, but it’s definitely Prince-inspired with the staccato kind of poppiness of it.”

She described the song as having “a lot of attitude,” while saying the chorus “opens up into this major pop-rock vibe,” which she called “very reminiscent of a Kelly Clarkson empowerment anthem. I like a fun, anthematic, sarcastic song, as you probably know.”

The song marks her first new music since 'Where Have You Been' in May 2025. Her last studio album, 'Chemistry', was released in 2023. She is also set to return as a coach for Season 30 of 'The Voice', premiering on September 21.
