Kevin Costner calls his 'Horizon’ co-star Sienna Miller 'great actress', admits she'd do anything for him
CANNES, FRANCE: Kevin Costner and Sienna Miller were all praise for each other as they prepared to unveil their film ‘Horizon: The American Saga’ at the Cannes.
Miller, 42, who is co-starring with Costner in the four-part saga, gleefully shared in the press interview for the movie’s premiere that she can go “to the ends of the earth” for Costner.
Kevin Costner and Sienna Miller gush about each other
Costner gushed about the British actress, who recently welcomed her daughter with boyfriend Oli Green only in January, saying, “I think she's one of our great actresses.”
The ‘Yellowstone’ star continued, “Her outward beauty is undeniable, but she's so skilled as an actress," per Daily Mail.
The ‘Dances With Wolves’ star, who won seven Oscars for the film, was honored with France's Order of Arts and Letters on Sunday, before walking up the red carpet for ‘Horizon’ premiere.
Before honoring Costner with the medal on Sunday, May 19, French Culture Minister Rachida Dati said, “You represent the America of wide spaces, the America of free minds, the America of cinema, and the love of culture that we share on both sides of the Atlantic.”
‘The Bodyguard’ star - rocking a Wild West mustache - received the honor with his children in attendance, and said it was a dream come true moment for him to present the film at Cannes.
Costner said, “I think we somehow have to stand for ourselves in everything we do. We have to stand for the moments that we think are important.”
He continued, “We can't be consumed with making our pile of money bigger as much as our heart full. I don't have to cater to the conventions of what everybody thinks. It's like, tell your story, hope it's engaging, believe that it's engaging.”
The star added, “Believe that it takes you somewhere, that it's not more important than any other story, but it's a story that when the lights go out, it's the one you're watching.'
‘Horizon’ unravels the story of several groups heading west in the early 19th century, with Costner playing the role of Hayes Ellison. Miller essays the role of settler Frances Kittredge.
During the same interview, she shared, “I grew up watching Westerns. I think my idea of cinema was a Western when I was a little girl, and then Dances With Wolves was a huge, huge part of my life.”
Referring to two animals from the Costner-helmed Oscar-winning film, Miller added, “I had two rabbits called Two Socks and Cisco.”
She also recalled the time she got the call from Costner intending to cast her. Miller shared, “I got this call that Kevin wanted to talk to me, and then I got sent four scripts and I thought it must be a series.”
The ‘Layer Cake’ star added, “There are four of them, but they're so big, so it didn't really make sense. And then we had this great conversation. I'd really go to the ends of the earth for him, I think he's phenomenal.”
Costner would be releasing the first two installments of the four-part film saga in this summer.
He revealed to the media that the film further explores the central role women played in the West when the film was set.
“It's almost impossible to imagine a West without women, right? The West doesn't carry on without women,” declared Costner.
He continued, “And they understand that they were trying to keep their families clean and fed, and women were worked to death. And if they lost their man, there's every opportunity that their life could become something unimaginable, bad.”
“That's why Sienna [Miller]'s character moves so quickly to bring a man into her life because she knows how vulnerable she could be, and she doesn't care about her reputation to do it,” explained Costner, before adding, “And we would taboo that now: That's too quick, she's moved too quick.”
“I am not looking for kudos because women are in it. For me, they're not in it, they actually dominate the movie, to be honest. Every one of those women dominates when they're on the screen,” added the ‘Field of Dreams’ star.
He later added “I thank God for Cannes. I'm an independent filmmaker, essentially, and I'm here by myself.”
“This a high moment for me because it's helping me create awareness for a movie. I don't have all the money to expose this movie. But I have my time and a platform here,” concluded the phenomenal actor.

He added, “I’m sorry you had to clap that long for me to understand that I should speak.”
Costner continued, “Such good people. Such a good moment, not just for me, but for the actors that came with me, for people who believed in me and who continued to work. It’s a funny business, and I’m so glad I found it.”
