FRANKLIN, TENNESSEE: Kirk Cameron, a former child star from ‘Growing Pains’ and a Christian evangelical activist, caught the ire of the Internet on Tuesday, August 13, for criticizing public schools and making a controversial claim about the influence of public education on students.

During an interview with podcaster Elizabeth Johnston, Cameron said, “If we outsource our parenting because it’s easier or we believe the lie that we’re not qualified experts to educate our kids so we have to subcontract our parenting and discipleship out to the government, we’re gonna have little kids that come back as little Marxists, little statists, little atheists, drag queens, strippers, drug dealers, and you name it.”

What has Kirk Cameron been up to recently?

Kirk Cameron's 2014 film ‘Kirk Cameron's Saving Christmas’ received four Razzie Awards in a single year and holds a 0% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, according to HuffPost.

In more recent years, he has been an advocate for Christian homeschooling and appeared in the 2022 movie ‘The Homeschool Awakening.’

Internet goes scorched earth on Kirk Cameron for ranting about US public schools

Kirk Cameron's remaks against public school education were not well received online.

One X user claimed, "They HATE public schools and how they teach our kids to think outside of the Bible."

Another user remarked, "@KirkCameron has not aged well.... is it the evil oozing out. He is antithetical to everything Christianity is."

One asserted, "I went to a conservative private Christian school from K through 12. And while I am still not an atheist, a drug dealer, or a stripper… Kirk Cameron wouldn’t approve of my current politics or my current theology. Children are people and you can’t control them forever."

One X user wrote, "He’s crazy & looks old as hell! Thats what hate does to people who are so hateful & crazy!"

Another user quipped, "FWIW, my kids went to public school to learn how not to be Kirk Cameron."

One person said, "Kirk Cameron is a failed actor who knows nothing about public school education philosophy."

Finally, this user tweeted, "Far right Christians hate public education. They need schools to be brainwashing centers in order to get any votes. Kids who are properly educated and have good mental health are well-protected from these predators."
