NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: The New York Knicks have advised fans to arrive at Madison Square Garden at least "two hours early" for Monday’s NBA Finals Game 3 due to heavy security.

The arena has implemented a strict "no-bag" policy and warned of intense screening procedures in view of President Donald Trump's visit.

Knicks' advice to audience ahead of Monday’s game

According to the team's official statement, the Madison Square Garden officials and the United States Secret Service have coordinated to prepare for the high-profile visitor, leading to significant security enhancement for all the ticket holders.

“As we move closer to Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Monday night, Madison Square Garden and the United States Secret Service want to help ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all ticket holders by sharing important security procedures that will be in place,” the statement reads.

It further stated, “A strict no-bag policy will be in effect, and fans should make every effort to limit personal items to an absolute minimum. Fans should expect enhanced security measures when entering Madison Square Garden, including TSA-style screening procedures.”

The arrival of President Trump coincides with an already historic moment for the franchise as the team returns to New York with a commanding 2-0 series lead over the San Antonio Spurs.

With a 13-game playoff winning streak, the Knicks are positioned to potentially secure their first championship in over five decades during their time at home.

Concerns regarding arena atmosphere

While the President is expected to attend the pivotal Game 3, not everyone is welcoming the potential for distraction.

Sports personality Stephen A Smith has publicly stated that he believes the President should avoid the arena, clarifying that his position is not based on political disagreements but rather on the potential for logistical and environmental chaos.

As Smith explained on his radio show, “It has everything to do with him disrupting and contributing at the same time to the chaos that’s going to be existing at Madison Square Garden. If it were Barack Obama coming to the Garden, I would say, ‘Stay home. Stay at the White House.’”

Reflecting on the intensity of the upcoming matchup, Smith noted, “I have been covering sports for over 30 years. And I’m telling you right now, come Monday, for Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden, I expect to see an environment I have never seen in my entire career covering sports. You don’t understand. You don’t understand.”
