LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: According to the investigators, there is no proof that actor John Amos, 84, was mistreated while receiving care from his son Kelly 'KC' Amos. The LAPD has concluded the inquiry into the claims of neglect involving John Amos' care.

The 'Roots' actor's daughter, Shannon, informed Adult Protective Services that her brother neglected to obtain their father the treatment he needed when his health worsened. Los Angeles police said in March that they began investigating Shannon's claims.

John Amos 'neglect of care' case closed

Following many accusations by John Amos' daughter Shannon that his caretaker son KC Amos was "impersonating him in communications, disregarding his medical needs, and mishandling his finances," the LAPD has ended its investigation into the alleged abuse of the elder Amos.

Not only did the 57-year-old ayahuasca shaman report her 53-year-old brother to Adult Protective Services, but she also made "24" phone calls to the police and was successful in getting him detained in July 2023 for sending text messages containing "terroristic" threats.

However, the matter was closed once officials met with the people involved and discovered no evidence of misconduct.

The claims were finally written off to family drama, a law enforcement source told TMZ, because KC and Shannon had a well-known, continuing falling out.

John has refuted the allegations of neglect as well. According to the actor, his visit to the hospital in March was merely a check-up. After receiving Shannon's claims from APS, the LAPD determined that the 84-year-old Emmy nominee had "nothing seriously wrong" with his health.

This comes one month after John declared to People magazine that he was "feeling well and working diligently on various projects, including the docuseries that my son and I are producing, along with a music release."

"I'd like to add that everywhere we go together, people refer to my son KC as my twin. I'm proud of him for who he is as a person: a caring, thoughtful human being who respects me and I him," John added at the time.

LAPD's decision to close elder abuse case influenced by Shannon and KC Amos' feud

The LAPD's decision to close the current neglect case appears to have been influenced by the documented drama between Shannon and KC. According to Radar Online, KC was taken into custody in July 2023 after his sister said he had sent her text messages including "terroristic threats" that had caused her to fear for her life.

Shannon reported to West Orange, New Jersey officials that KC texted her pictures of firearms and discussed his purported gang affiliation. Essex County Prosector's Office spokesman Robert Florida stated that Shannon believed KC's bipolar disorder was the cause of the threatening communications.

She said her brother was afraid of her retaliation because he thought she had hired a hitman to kill him.

John and Shannon Amos' conflicting statements about actor's health

John and Shannon have previously expressed differing opinions over the actor's health and the caliber of his medical care. John was allegedly the victim of "elder abuse" and "financial exploitation" while receiving medical attention in Memphis, Tennessee, per a June 2023 Radar Online report.

In addition, Shannon launched a GoFundMe, claiming that her father "had been violated, stripped of anything valuable" while "fighting for his life." The campaign raised $13K of its $500K target before being closed, per Daily Mail.

The 'Coming to America' actor was hospitalized "because his lower body was filling with fluid, all the way to his abdomen, and causing issues with his heart," said a source at the time of the admission.

Shannon stated in the GoFundMe description, "Though I was out of the country, we managed a brief FaceTime conversation before his pain became too unbearable." However, John denied the accusations of elder abuse and said he wasn't battling for his life, questioning why his daughter had started the crowdfunding campaign.
