LAPD launches probe as John Amos' daughter accuses her brother of neglect again amid health issues

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The Los Angeles Police Department is starting an investigation regarding the allegations of neglect in the care of ‘Good Times’ actor John Amos.

The 84-year-old actor’s daughter Shannon has made the allegations that her father is battling with health issues and his brother KC Amos is not getting him proper care.

The contentious relationship between the siblings regarding their father has long been the talk of the town. Nevertheless, the latest police probe into the matter will focus on the recent accusations put forward by Shannon.

LAPD will be starting an investigation regarding the allegations

As per TMZ, Shannon recently called Adult Protective Services to allege that the ‘Coming to America’ star is battling ill health and his son KC Amos is not getting him proper care.

Based on her claims, the APS took note of the matter and forwarded it to the Los Angeles Police Department which has launched an investigation. The outlet reports that while the contentious battle between the siblings has a long history, the police will specifically focus on the new allegations.

Recently John was in a hospital, which TMZ reports, was for a routine checkup. The actor even shared from the hospital that he was doing fine.

Shannon Amos alleged his father was subject to ‘elder abuse’

In June 2023, Shannon penned a long post on Instagram saying that her father was a subject of “elder abuse” and his life was “hanging by a thread” as he was admitted to an ICU.

She wrote, “On May 14th, I would receive a distressing call: from my dad, sharing that he was hospitalized in Memphis, Tennessee, in immense pain.”

Shannon continued, “Despite being out of the country, I arranged for help to reach him. ICU revealed his life hanging by a thread," before adding, “The past two weeks shattered our world. My dad, a victim of elder abuse and financial exploitation.”

She then collaborated with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation to get justice and created a GoFundMe page asking for "legal, medical, future housing, and care expenses" for him. 

John later denied the claims and said in a statement to People, "To all of my fans, I want you to know that I am doing well. I am not in ICU, nor was I ever fighting for my life. First, I want the GoFundMe campaign about me to stop immediately, and the funds subsequently returned to those who made donations.”

John Amos opened up about the ‘acrimonious’ family equation

In December 2023, the ‘Die Hard 2’ actor opened up about their family equation and opened up about his relationship with his daughter Shannon Amos.

Referring to his son KC, John shared with People, "It is his sibling, that is my daughter, my first child. I love her. K.C. loves his sister. We just have, I guess, what might be best described in the tabloids is an acrimonious relationship, but everything heals in time, and the love is still there.”

The actor further added that he believes that "all families go through trials and tribulations of some sort" and hopes that their family will have a "harmonious relationship at some point."

‘The Roots’ actor continued, "Right now, it is somewhat acrimonious, but never mind what you might read or hear about in the paper or on this medium or that medium platform. Suffice it to say we are still family, and we love each other, and that's the bottom line.”
