Laura Loomer slammed for 'disgusting' rant against Medal of Honor recipient: 'Knows nothing of sacrifice'

WASHINGTON, DC: Laura Loomer, a fierce Donald Trump loyalist, has sparked outrage after launching a social media attack on Medal of Honor recipient Captain Florent Groberg.

Groberg, who heroically saved lives by tackling a suicide bomber in Afghanistan in 2012, was honored with the prestigious medal for his bravery. On the anniversary of that life-saving act, Loomer’s controversial comments about his award have stunned many, drawing sharp criticism.

Laura Loomer stirred controversy with a post on X (formerly Twitter) aimed at Florent Groberg on the anniversary of his heroic actions, August 8. 

She began by questioning the Army’s choice of honoree, saying, “There are probably so many people who the Army could honor who have received the Medal of Honor. But who did the Army choose to honor instead on their social media page under the Trump admin?"

Loomer went on to identify Groberg as a Democrat who spoke at the 2016 Democratic National Convention, campaigning against Trump in support of Hillary Clinton and earning praise from Barack Obama.

She criticized the Army’s vetting process, stating, “You’d think that the US Army of all places would actually invest in some proper vetting, but nope. Inadequacy, screw ups, and zero political knowledge of anything in the Trump era is totally accepted my many in this admin.”

Loomer also accused Army Secretary Dan Driscoll of allowing “anti-Trump leftists” to be promoted on official channels, referencing the “Vindman incident.”

She questioned, “Are we supposed to believe the Army couldn’t find a Republican and US born soldier? They had to find an immigrant who voted for Hillary Clinton and spoke at the DNC as Obama’s guest? Isn’t this the type of thing political advisors are supposed to be keeping Dan Driscoll informed of?”

Loomer concluded by calling Driscoll “aloof” and suggested that overlooking such details often leads to bigger problems, writing, “It’s the details that will get you. Every. Single. Time. Details present patterns. And patterns present red flags.”

Florent Groberg responds to Laura Loomer's tirade

In response to Laura Loomer’s controversial post about him, Captain Florent Groberg wrote, “Oh boy… Thirteen years ago today is my Alive Day, the day I nearly lost my life, and four of my brothers, including three Army leaders, never came home. I’ve served under presidents from both parties and will always honor my oath to this country."

He added, “Yes, I spoke for 60 seconds at the DNC when asked about service and sacrifice, not politics. For me, 8/8 isn’t about parties. It’s about the lives we lost."

Laura Loomer's rant about Florent Groberg sparks outrage

Laura Loomer’s rant quickly drew backlash, even from many within the MAGA community. 

Former Illinois GOP Representative Adam Kinzinger condemned Loomer's remarks on X, writing, "This is low even for you."

Another commenter, a conservative Republican and combat veteran with a Purple Heart, called her post "the most obnoxious trash I’ve seen on social media in years. Military honor and recognition isn’t based on a person’s political beliefs or activities. This man saved lives with full knowledge his survival was unlikely. When we are in uniform, and everything we did in uniform isn’t red or blue. It is green and remains Green for eternity." 

Another veteran accused Loomer of disrespect, writing, "As a veteran, you are a disgusting individual for attacking him. He has done far more for our country than you will ever do. Who cares if his politics doesn’t line up, it does not make him less of a hero!" 

"Groberg is an American hero who risked his life for his comrades. Laura Loomer is an online troll who knows nothing of sacrifice or honor," read another tweet. 

One more suggested, "You should delete this, Laura."

An enraged individual wrote, "I’ve often critiqued @LauraLoomer , but this post takes it to another level. Her stubbornness, despite widespread backlash, shows a disconnect from the core values many conservatives cherish. My deepest respect goes to @FlorentGroberg for his extraordinary courage, irrespective of his politics. Some acts, like his sacrifice, transcend partisanship—clearly a concept beyond Laura’s grasp. 🪖🇺🇸"
