Lauren Boebert slammed by GOP rivals over absence at debate for Colorado's 4th Congressional district
WELD, COLORADO: Representative Lauren Boebert, a Republican from Colorado seeking reelection in the state's 4th Congressional District, was notably absent from a recent debate, prompting her GOP competitors to seize the opportunity to criticize her.
Boebert, known for her staunch support of former President Donald Trump and her representation of Colorado's 3rd Congressional District, announced her candidacy for the traditionally conservative 4th District in December 2023, citing a desire for a fresh start amid personal challenges.
Speculation on Lauren Boebert's absence: Fear of facing Adam Frisch
Critics speculate that her move was motivated by concerns over a potential loss to Democrat Adam Frisch, whom she narrowly defeated in the 2022 midterms.
The debate, hosted by the Republican Women of Weld and the Lincoln Club of Colorado, aimed to gather Boebert and five other GOP contenders. However, Boebert's absence was notable, with organizers indicating she declined the invitation despite participating in other debates the same week. Her rivals didn't hesitate to take jabs at her during the event.
According to the Newsweek, when questioned about what distinguishes them from Boebert, her competitors highlighted various reasons.
State Representatives Mike Lynch and Richard Holtorf, ex-state Senator Jerry Sonnenberg, business owner Peter Yu, and former talk radio presenter Deborah Flora each criticized Boebert for her controversial vote against certifying the 2020 presidential election results following the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack.
They emphasized their commitment to delivering results and connecting with the district's diverse population, contrasting Boebert's perceived disconnect.
"I've actually passed legislation...we're hearing a whole bunch of rhetoric that really doesn't ever talk about results," Lynch said. "This race and this time is important enough that we need people who know how to get stuff done...I would never abandon my district."
Other contenders slam Lauren Boebert
"I can count on one hand how many people are supporting her throughout the district," Flora said. "I feel like who she is is who she is, but in regards to what the difference between me and her is I have connection to this district. I believe hard work matters, people realize that's who I am, that's why I'm out there."
"Lets talk about why you need a fighter...a warrior because we are in a battle for the Republic," Holtorf said.
"I want to talk about the difference, Boebert voted against the water projects in Colorado in Washington DC for Colorado. How do you do that if you represent this state, you can't. She doesn't know eastern Colorado and she was the wrong fit for this congressional district."
Despite endorsements from House Republican leadership and the Colorado Republican Party, Boebert faces a competitive primary race against Lynch, Holtorf, Sonnenberg, Yu, and Flora.
Trump's backing on his social media platform and at a campaign rally underscored his support for Boebert, but her opponents remain steadfast in their bid to secure the Republican nomination for Colorado's 4th District.
