LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Los Angeles Lakers selected LeBron James's eldest son Bronny James as the 55th pick in the second round of the draft on June 27. The move sets the stage for a historic father-son pairing on court.

"Beyond blessed," 19-year-old Bronny wrote while sharing the Lakers' post in his Instagram Story

Bronny was placed on the same team as his father and four-time NBA champion LeBron James. James, who only played one year of basketball at the University of Southern California, where he averaged 4.8 points per game, was selected by the Lakers as the 55th overall choice in this year's draft.

As LeBron, 39, prepares for his 22nd season and Bronny gets ready for his first, the pick opens the door for the first father-son team to play simultaneously in NBA history. As per ESPN, James was selected after a promising performance at the NBA Draft Combine, where he was one of the top players in the 3-point shooting drills.

LeBron's mother, Gloria, along with Savannah's parents, and some of Bronny's closest friends and confidants were present at the draft. Bronny had a promising high school basketball career before playing at USC, becoming a 4-star recruit out of Sierra Canyon High School.

Lakers are keen to retain Bronny for his 22nd season and beyond, offering the maximum three-year, $162 million deal, reports Hello Magazine.

Moment Bronny James hears his name called at NFL draft

Lakers All-Star big man Anthony Davis expressed his support for the team’s decision to get Bronny.

“He's very good defensively," Anthony shared with ESPN. "He can read the floor very well. I think he's a really good playmaker. I saw him work out a couple of times besides the [Klutch Sports] pro day and working with a big his reads, reading the defense, making the right passes  that was really impressive to me. I think he's going to be fine, man. Obviously, it's a lot of pressure on him with his dad being who he is."

Anthony continued, highlighting Bronny's determination to forge his own path. "But one thing about Bronny, from what I've seen and what I heard, he wants to create his own path and he doesn't want to be even though he's LeBron James' son, he don't want be seen as that. And I think having that mindset and trying to create his own path is going to work out for him.  Who knows, he might come in and be ready to play for us."
