PLYMOUTH, MASSACHUSETTS: Lindsay Clancy’s parents are facing a longer wait after their daughter’s murder trial ended without a verdict.

GoFundMe created to help Mike and Paula Musgrove with the costs of supporting their daughter has now raised its target to $3 million.

The change came after Lindsay Clancy’s trial ended in a mistrial on Friday, September 4. The fundraiser, started by Brandee Mulligan, had already crossed the $1 million mark on August 24. It has now received $1,172,579 from supporters around the world, including donors in Australia and Scotland.

Lindsay Clancy’s parents face continued costs after mistrial

The fundraiser was created to help the Musgroves manage the financial strain of being there for Lindsay during her legal proceedings.

Lindsay, 36, was on trial over the January 2023 deaths of her three children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, eight months.

Her parents have continued to attend court proceedings and moved from their home in Connecticut to Massachusetts so they could remain close to their daughter.

"For more than three years, Mike and Paula have shown up for Lindsay. They have attended her court proceedings and relocated from their Connecticut home to Massachusetts so they can be close to their daughter,” a statement on the GoFundMe page posted on August 20 said.

The statement also said Paula is retired while Mike works as a photographer.

The couple has spent years covering travel, lodging, and living costs connected to staying close to Lindsay, using savings they had built over their lifetime.

Organizer Brandee Mulligan explains the new $3 million goal

Following the mistrial, Mulligan said the fundraiser needed a higher target because the legal process could continue for longer.

“I've decided to raise the goal of this fundraiser since this process has been extended, so is the time Paula and Mike will remain away from their home, continuing to carry the costs that come with being there for their daughter every day,” Mulligan wrote in an update posted on Friday.

She said the purpose of the fundraiser had not changed and that the money was meant to ease one part of the family’s burden.

“The original purpose of this fundraiser hasn't changed — it's simply to take one thing off their plate while they continue to show up for their family,” Mulligan wrote. “If they have to keep showing up longer, I want to make sure the support does too.”

She ended the message by thanking those who had contributed and encouraging continued support for the family.

GoFundMe for Lindsay Clancy’s parents draws support from around the world

The fundraiser has attracted more than $1.17 million so far, with supporters contributing from outside the US as well.

Mulligan has also addressed questions about her connection to the family. In an Instagram post, she said she is not related to either the Musgrove or Clancy families.

She described the fundraiser as the “only authorized and verified GoFundMe acknowledged by Lindsay's parents.”

The GoFundMe page also states that Mulligan does not have access to the money and that the funds go directly to the Musgroves.

Beyond running the fundraiser, Mulligan has regularly discussed the Lindsay Clancy trial on her personal social media pages.

Some of her posts have also criticized Lindsay’s ex-husband, Patrick Clancy, showing how closely she has followed the case despite not being related to either family.
