Lindsay Lohan recreates iconic ‘Mean Girls’ October 3 moment in viral video
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Lindsay Lohan couldn't let October 3 pass without celebrating and recreated one of Cady Heron’s most memorable moments from the film in a video that has now gone viral.
This came after the actress recently reflected on why the coming-of-age comedy continues to resonate with audiences more than two decades after its release.
Lindsay Lohan celebrates Mean Girls Day with October 3 video
Lohan, who played Cady Heron in Tina Fey’s 2004 coming-of-age comedy, shared a video on Instagram recreating the now-famous scene when Cady tells the camera, “It’s October 3rd,” after recalling the day her crush, Aaron Samuels, played by Jonathan Bennett, asked her what day it was.
After delivering the line, Lohan broke into laughter and winked at the camera, embracing the nostalgia surrounding the moment. Bennett was clearly delighted to see his former co-star recreate the scene. He commented on Lohan’s Instagram post, “This made me miss you two so much! This homo has fomo.”
The small moment has become one of 'Mean Girls' most enduring references, with October 3 turning into an unofficial holiday, known as "Mean Girls Day," for fans of the movie.
Every year, social media fills with 'Mean Girls' references, pink imagery and quotes from the film. While October 3 does not fall on a Wednesday this year, that has hardly stopped fans from celebrating the date Cady famously revealed to Aaron.
More than two decades after 'Mean Girls' hit theatres, Lohan believes the film remains “so fetch” because its message continues to be relevant. Speaking exclusively with PEOPLE in July while promoting her campaign with Chime, she reflected on why the cult classic still connects with millennials who grew up quoting it and Gen Z audiences discovering it for the first time.
Lindsay Lohan explains why 'Mean Girls' remains relevant
“I think because it's still relevant,” Lohan told PEOPLE. “I think so many kids in school deal with scrutiny in so many different ways and maybe even now more than ever with social media and trying to look and be a certain way.”
'Mean Girls' follows Cady, a teenager who moves from Africa to suburban Illinois and becomes caught up in the complicated social hierarchy of high school after joining the Plastics, played by Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert, and Amanda Seyfried.
As Cady becomes increasingly involved in their world, the film explores bullying and the desire to fit in, themes Lohan says remain timely today. “'Mean Girls' touched on all that at a time when people weren't really talking about it,” she said. “That has stayed consistent over the years.”
While the film addresses serious themes, Lohan also believes its humor has helped it remain popular. “And it’s fun,” she shared. The 40-year-old also agrees that the movie’s endlessly quotable script has contributed to its longevity, with the line “Get in loser, we're about to have our best era yet” referenced in her Chime campaign.
