DOLTON, ILLINOIS: The Village of Dolton in Illinois voted on Monday, April 8, to hire former Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot as a Special Investigator to look into Dolton Mayor Tiffany Henyard's case, per CBS

Starting Tuesday, April 9, Lightfoot will be paid $400 an hour to gather information on Henyard’s alleged lavish spending and financial mismanagement as well as "any state and federal violations".

What did Lightfoot say?

Ahead of Monday’s vote, Lightfoot said she understood the residents want to go in a different direction from Henyard, and promised to "follow the facts where they lead".

"The residents of Dolton deserve nothing less than a government that is fully accountable, responsive, transparent, and effective stewards of taxpayer dollars," she stated.

Lightfoot will submit a report based on her findings to the Village of Dolton at the conclusion of her investigation. What happens after that will be decided by the report's conclusions.

Trustees also re-voted on matters pertaining to payments to suppliers and invoices that the village has not yet paid, as well as topics that the mayor of Dolton had previously vetoed.

Since Monday's vote was not an official Village Board meeting, it took place off-site in the Park District headquarters. In order to accommodate locals who wished to attend, it was transferred there.

The Village of Dolton, Illinois’ monthly town hall meeting once again made headlines last week for fiery confrontations with the scandal-ridden mayor.

For those unversed, Henyard has been charged with crimes ranging from using police as weapons in revenge business raids to using public funds for extravagant trips to Las Vegas.

Henyard allegedly blocked the board's motion last month to look into her spending due to alleged financial misappropriation. The board's resolution had requested that the FBI look into Henyard's use of municipal funds even though the FBI is rumored to have started looking into her for allegedly abusing her local police force.
