NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK:Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene got the attention of the internet as she criticized gender-affirming care and pushed for her Protect Children’s Innocence Act bill on X (formerly Twitter) on February 21.

Greene's remarks were in response to Illinois Rep Anne Stava-Murray introducing Amendment HB4876 to the Abused and Neglected Child Reporting Act, which would allow children who are denied "necessary medical care" to be considered victims of abuse.

Taking to the social media platform, the Georgia Representative retweeted a post that stated, "BREAKING: Democrats in Illinois (@RepStava_Murray) introduced HB 4876. The bill would classify parents as child abusers if they don’t get their kids “gender affirming care” aka puberty blockers and s*x change surgery. They will use this to take kids away from their parents to transition them."

"My bill, the Protect Children’s Innocence Act, would stop all of this madness," wrote Greene.

"'Gender affirming care' is genital mutilation. We need to protect children from this horrific abuse and the rights of parents to prevent it," she added.

Internet reacts to Marjorie Taylor Greene's post

Netizens responding to Greene's tweet were divided in their opinions. Some backed the congresswoman, while others brutally slammed her for the tweet.

"As usual, you are wrong Ms. Greene," wrote one social media user. "The vast majority of gender affirming care is counselling, not surgery. Surgery is an option for people at the age of 18. There are only a few extremely rare cases of people under the age of 18 having surgery. Every major medical organization supports gender affirming care. This is based on decades or research and understanding of the issues. You, Ms. Greene are no expert, not a doctor, have done no actual research, and are simply a fear mongering bigot," they added.

"We need more laws like this. This would protect our children from predators," a user supporting Greene said.

"Labeling gender affirming care as genital mutilation oversimplifies complex medical and psychological issues potentially endangering the well being of transgender youth and undermining their access to essential healthcare," argued a third.

"Children need to be protected, this wave of distorted concepts is crippling children, there must be laws to protect children," expressed a fourth.

"Fact Checking...It would appear that Marjorie Taylor Greene is hell-bent on ensuring young people remain bullied, depressed, and suicidal because they have no options available to them regarding their gender identity," another user wrote.

Meanwhile, one commented, "Anyone who values the children in this country should get onboard. Otherwise, you’re enabling some truly disturbing medical 'care'."
