NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: In a scathing critique, Mary Trump blasted her uncle Donald Trump as “leader of the pro-death party.”

The former president's niece's harsh condemnation on Monday, June 17, came through her newsletter 'The Good in Us' where she highlighted Trump's “cynical embrace” of war weaponry, according to The Hill.

Mary Trump says Donald Trump is 'the death candidate'

In her newsletter, Mary wrote, “The harsh reality is that Donald is a serious national security threat to the American people. This is a life-or-death election. And my uncle is the death candidate. Let’s choose life, shall we?”

She noted the irony of the 77-year-old politician's reaction to the recent Supreme Court ruling that overturned the Trump administration's ban on bump stocks, devices that increase the firing speed of semiautomatic firearms.

Following the ruling, Trump spokesperson Karoline Leavitt stated that the court's decision “should be respected,” according to the Washington Examiner the decision.

“Friday was a terrible day for those of us who don’t want to die — and don’t want our kids to die — at the hands of mass murderers wielding weapons of war, modified or otherwise," Mary wrote in her newsletter.

"The irony, of course, is that the Trump-era bump stock ban was one of the very, very few decent things the Trump administration managed to accomplish,” she continued.

“And what was Donald’s reaction to the decision? Well, for the first time in a long time, he said he respects a court decision. Then he bragged about getting the NRA’s [National Rifle Association] endorsement,” Mary added.

The Supreme Court ruling effectively ended the nationwide ban on bump stock devices which had been implemented by Trump in 2018 following the mass shooting in Las Vegas.

The shooter used bump-stocked firearms to kill 60 people and injured hundreds of others in the shooting incident.

Mary Trump says Donald Trump 'played golf' while Americans were dying during Covid-19

Asserting that Trump's stance and response to the ruling highlight broader, troubling trends within the party, Mary argued that it became “powerful reminders that the leader of the Republican[s] is the death candidate.”

“It’s not just Donald’s cynical embrace of weapons of war that should alarm us — after all, this has been a mainstream Republican position for years,” she continued.

“He was also willing to turn a global pandemic into a wedge issue. And during the horrors of the first two waves of Covid-19, when as many as 5,000 Americans were dying every day, he played golf and bragged about his television ratings," Mary added.
