WASHINGTON, DC: Matt Gaetz has seemingly broken up with Donald Trump as he endorsed House Freedom Caucus Chair Bob Good (R-Va) on X instead of the ex-leader’s backed primary challenger, Virginia state Senator John McGuire.

The 42-year-old lawyer wrote on the micro-blogging site, “Vote for @RepBobGood.”

He also reshared a tweet that read, “I speak for all of MAGA when I say, we don't want another McCarthy plant in Congress. We want Bob Good, one of the best legislators doing the people's work in that disgusting swamp.”

Trump's apparent dislike for Bob Good stems from when he first endorsed Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for the White House before showing his support for Trump after DeSantis had left the race, as reported by The Hill.

Donald Trump called Bob Good ‘Bad’

The 77-year-old Republican even posted on his Truth Social page, “Bob Good is BAD FOR VIRGINIA, AND BAD FOR THE USA. He turned his back on our incredible movement, and was constantly attacking and fighting me until recently, when he gave a warm and ‘loving’ Endorsement.”

“But really, it was too late. The damage had been done! I just want to MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, and the person that can most help me do that is Navy Seal and highly respected State Legislator, John McGuire, a true American Hero,” he added.

Netizens say they ‘need Nationalists’

Meanwhile, Gaetz’s stand against Trump has attracted a variety of attention online with an X user tweeting, “I support Bob Good!”

One user wrote, “Hmmm Im so confused……..”

Another said, “We need Nationalists. AMERICA FIRST - AMERICA ONLY - AMERICA ALWAYS.”

“You have all lost respect. The only chance you have to do the right thing is coming to an end Matt, the sand is almost out. We have no faith in any of you but if it's not too much trouble. Try,” another stated.

One user shared, “Trump says no and we heard the secret recording of him so I highly doubt he’ll get many votes.”

“I appreciate you backing the conservative in this race when the liberal secured DJT’s ‘complete and total endorsement’ all because Bob Good had the gall to back a different (actually conservative) primary candidate... You should be praised when you do the right thing,” an individual wrote.

One more user said "You’re not their messiah. They’re not going to do what you say"

Another individual added, “What another pretend MAGA who will turn in his constituents when elected? All you drip a** are the same. You beg for our money and our vote and you do nothing with it other than take from us.  Stop pretending these candidates are going to help save this country. What have they done to deserve our vote? Nothing..”
