BOGOTA, COLOMBIA: Meghan Markle was reportedly seen as “relaxed and friendly” while adopting a “more reflective approach” during her speech in Cali, Colombia, on Sunday, August 18.

Meghan Markle and her husband Prince Harry are currently in Colombia for their unofficial royal tour.

Recently, the Duchess of Sussex delivered an impassioned speech on women empowerment, which body language expert Judi James described as a warm and engaging approach from the mother of two.

Meghan Markle looked ‘relaxed and friendly’

Meghan Markle delivered a speech on women's empowerment at the Afro Women and Power Conference in Cali, Colombia, on Sunday, held at the Grand Municipal Theatre.

She chose a white sleeveless top paired with a patterned skirt for her impassioned address. At the start of her speech, she paid tribute to Prince Harry and her three-year-old daughter, Lilibet.

Body language expert Judi James noted that through her warm speech, the Duchess of Sussex aimed to endear herself to the audience. She also made an effort to connect with her listeners by incorporating Spanish into parts of her address.

James recently told The Mirror after analyzing Markle’s speech, "Sitting down to make her speech here and dramatically removing her earpiece before speaking in Spanish, Meghan seems to signal a softer, warmer and more reflective approach to motivating her audience and getting her inspirational messages across.”

"This looked more like a chat than a speech and she used her body language responses to appear to keep it visually at least as something of a two-way conversation, pausing and laughing delightedly as the audience first cheered to hear her speak in Spanish,” said James.

She further elaborated on Meghan’s pose while delivering a speech. James explained, "She used a slightly coy and bashful head tilt, which is a signal of a desire to please or to be liked."

"Her poise was constant, with her legs at one point performing the regal leg-slant, but she managed to look both fluent, comfortable and adept at speaking in another language, which is a trick none of our own royals seem to have mastered yet, especially and impressively without reading from a script,” said the body language expert praising her skill.

James continued, "Her left-hand gestures seemed to indicate that much of her talk would be focusing on herself and her own story, with a slight clawing shape with the fingers aimed at her own torso but her wrist relaxed as her hand moved backward and forward to indicate herself."

Meghan Markle herself accepted later in her speech that she was “relaxed on this trip.”

She remarked, "I'm just really relaxed on this trip,” before adding, “That's probably because it's Colombia, and you all know how to have fun, but there's been something really that's true, there's something so liberating about being able to be yourself and be comfortable in your skin and be surrounded in a space that is excited to see you exactly the way that you are.”

"And so I think that is part of the chapter for me, of joy that will hopefully continue to inspire and allow me to keep doing the work that we love to do, which is to just be of service and see other people live their lives in that same joyful spirit," she added.
