LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are recently back in the news after it was announced that they would be venturing out for an overseas trip to Colombia later this year.

Duke and Duchess of Susexes’ upcoming trip to Colombia marks their second official international trip since they stepped down as working royals in January 2020.

In May of this year, the couple embarked on their first tour as non-working royals, visiting Nigeria following Meghan's discovery of her Nigerian ancestry.

While their trip to Nigeria faced some criticism, the planned visit to Colombia has sparked concerns among royal courtiers. Some speculate that Meghan might be using this trip as an opportunity for the “ultimate revenge” against the royal family.

Meghan Markle plans to turn the tide toward her

Recently, a source told to UK’s OK!, that since their royal exit, Harry’s memoir 'Spare,' and the couple’s Netflix show, they haven't been enjoying widespread public adulation.

The source suggests that Meghan aims to shift public favor in her direction with this trip while demonstrating to the royal family that she was a valuable asset to the Firm.

Now that two senior royal members of the royal family - King Charles and Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales - are indisposed after their cancer diagnosis earlier this year, there is a sense of void in the royal family.

The source shared, “Meghan sees this Columbia tour as her chance to prove to the world what a big star she is and how much the Royal Family misses her.”

"She knows how much she can turn it on and doing events like this was the one thing about royal life that appealed to her. She was furious when that was taken away because she knows she’s such an asset,” explained the insider.

They further added, “She feels she and Harry together really shine when meeting dignitaries and locals, and it helps with the brand and their plan to be the alternative Royal Family. Meghan knows that nobody in the Royal Family can put on a show like her and Harry.”

The insider disclosed that after stepping down from their royal roles, they asked if they could continue with official tours but were quickly turned down.

“When they left, they asked that they could still represent the family on tours but were told no, so she feels it’s the ultimate revenge as they were both so upset when they were rejected," added the source.

With official royal tours seemingly on hold due to health issues affecting the British monarch and Kate, Harry and Meghan appear to have stepped in to fill the gap with their own unofficial tours.

Nevertheless, the royal courtiers are worried that the Sussexes’ trips do not aid the causes of the Royal Family and do not ally with Britain’s interests. They also feared this could widen the feud between the two royal camps.

Moreover, their planned trip comes at a time of heightened crime warnings in Colombia by both the UK and the US governments.

Meghan Markle considering bringing kids on Colombia trip

Moreover, the upcoming Colombia trip might generate further interest as Meghan Markle is seriously contemplating whether she should bring her children - Prince Archie, five and Princess Lilibet, three - for the trip.

“Meghan is debating whether to bring the children with her as she feels they’re old enough, especially Archie, to enjoy a trip like this and meet people from different cultures,” added the source.

They noted, “She’s well aware that it would bring extra attention and that if the four of them are pictured on the tour, it again adds to their brand.”

Though their proposed itinerary for the Colombia trip is not yet known, the Sussexes are expected to visit the country's capital Bogota, and a few coastal areas.

During their visit to Colombia, they are expected to engage with "leaders, youth, and women" and participate in activities addressing "cyberbullying, online exploitation, and the mental health impacts of these threats."

The source concluded by saying, “At the moment, the Royal Family is lacking representatives and she knows they’ll all be watching on to see how they handle it and what reception they get. Meghan wants to be seen as so much more than a Hollywood celebrity - and feels doing tours elevates her.”
