Meghan Markle draws flak over ‘weird’ comparison of marriage with Prince Harry to popular video game

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Meghan Markle, 43, is facing backlash online after comparing her marriage with Prince Harry to a famous Nintendo video game during her recent podcast appearance.

While reflecting on her seven-year relationship with Prince Harry, 40, on 'The Jamie Kern Lima Show', Markle likened their journey as a couple to reaching the final level in Super Mario Bros, a comparison that triggered a wave of criticism on social media.

During her podcast debut on Monday, April 28, Meghan Markle shared how much she values her life with Prince Harry and the family they have built together.

“ H (Harry), that man loves me so much and you know, look what we've built,” said Markle. “We built a beautiful life and we have two healthy, beautiful children," she added.

She went on to compare their relationship to the 1985 Nintendo game where the goal is to complete the last level and rescue Princess Toadstool. 

“I always think about it like the end of Super Mario Brothers when you get to the final level and what's the goal? They're like slay the dragon, save the princess. That's my husband," Markle gushed, according to Daily Mail.

Meghan Markle also spoke about the early days of her relationship with Prince Harry and how their bond has grown stronger over time.

“You have to imagine, at the beginning it's like butterflies, and then we immediately went into the trenches together right out of the gate, six months into dating,” Markle said.

She added, “So, now seven years later when you have a little bit of breathing space, you can just enjoy each other in a new way. And that's why I feel like it's more of a honeymoon period for us now.”

When the host asked if she believes she’ll be with Harry forever, Markle answered: “Yes.”

Of late, speculations have been rife that the duke and duchess are heading toward divorce. Markle subtly debunked those rumors with her answer.

The couple got engaged in November 2017 and tied the knot in 2018. They share two children together, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet.

Internet dubs Meghan Markle 'cringe-level phony'

Online users were quick to mock Meghan Markle's comparison of her marriage with Prince Harry to the video game Super Mario Bros, calling her analogy cringeworthy and "fake".

“Meghan Markle thinks she’s The Princess & Prince Harry is Super Mario,” wrote one person on X.

“Why is Meghan so obsessed with all things British? You notice in this interview she was also trying to call Harry a dragon slayer in her little reference to the Super Mario story. Everything Meghan does is scripted and she is so fake and so is JKL. It's all RIGGED!,” another wrote.

“Okay, she really is fake, just cringe-level phony. And the narcissism of ‘that man really loves me’ instead of, you know, ‘wow, I'm in love with that guy.’ Where is Joan Rivers when we need her?” said another.

"She is so pathetic and phony. Every thing that comes out of her mouth makes her more unrelateable and weird,” one user reacted.

“Do you know when women act like this? Before divorce,” commented another.
