Meghan Markle shares rare family photos from Princess Diana's childhood home

Among the photos in Markle's 'Summer Holiday' carousel was a rare snap of Prince Harry walking with Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet across the grounds of Althorp, the Northamptonshire estate where Princess Diana spent much of her childhood.

The children were photographed from behind, reflecting Harry and Meghan's approach to protecting their privacy while still sharing occasional family moments. During the family's recent trip, the Sussexes stayed at the 13,000-acre estate as guests of Harry's uncle, Charles Spencer.

The visit gave Archie and Lilibet the chance to spend time at a place that holds special meaning for their family. Diana grew up at Althorp before becoming a member of the royal family and was laid to rest on a secluded island on the estate after she died in a car crash in Paris in 1997.

The stop at Althorp stood out in Meghan's photo carousel, which also featured flowers, scenic views, and other moments from the family's travels. Harry has often spoken about wanting his children to know about Princess Diana and the impact she had on the world.

The Sussexes are also believed to have spent time with members of the Spencer family during their stay.

Prince Harry recalled bringing Meghan Markle to Althorp in 'Spare'

The recent visit wasn't Markle's first time at Althorp. In his 2023 memoir, 'Spare', Prince Harry revealed that he brought Meghan to the estate for the first time in 2022 to mark the 25th anniversary of Princess Diana's death.

Harry recalled taking a boat across the lake to the island where his mother's grave is located. Looking around the estate, he wrote that he "gazed around at Althorp's rolling fields and ancient trees, the thousands of green acres where my mother grew up, and where, though things weren't perfect, she'd known some peace."

The Duke of Sussex admitted the visit was not emotionally easy, but said it was important for him to share the place with Meghan. Reflecting on the moment, Harry wrote, "At long last, I was bringing the girl of my dreams home to meet mum."

For those unaware, Princess Diana's grave is located on a private island in the middle of Oval Lake and is not accessible to the public.
