MONTECITO, CALIFORNIA: Meghan Markle’s new Netflix lifestyle series, 'With Love, Meghan', was meant to offer viewers a glimpse into her favorite recipes and hosting tips.

However, it has instead sparked widespread debate over an unexpected topic: her knife skills.

Meghan Markle’s knife skills in ‘With Love, Meghan’ spark online criticism

Viewers took to social media to express skepticism about the Duchess of Sussex’s culinary skills after noticing her unorthodox way of handling a knife.

One baffled user on X shared a screenshot of Markle chopping produce and wrote: “Why is Meghan Markle holding the knife like that? This woman hasn't cooked much, has she?”

The backlash reportedly began as early as January when the show’s trailer was first released.

One Redditor criticized: “So we're supposed to learn cooking 'tips and tricks' from someone who doesn't even hold a chef's knife properly?”

They continued, “I took an intro cooking class as a teenager and the first thing they taught us was how to hold a knife properly.”

"She's elevated knife holding. 😏," one Reddit post read.

Another added: “She looks clueless in the kitchen. Can’t hold a knife properly, hands full of tanning lotion, wearing all of the jewellery she owns but no gloves, long black hair swinging around, every word is condescending, fake and contrived. Somehow she thinks people won’t notice she doesn’t cook. But she “elevates”…stuff.”

"Those who really cook have a body language that just says I have a command of the kitchen. She does not have that vibe," one person wrote.

A third viewer remarked: “The knife, the hair hanging over the food, the fact that she is not even in her own home or kitchen. Everything about this says YUCK!”

“I saw an episode of Worst Cooks in America where the host ran around with a red sharpie pen and slashed the contestants’ index fingers when they held a knife this way. I guess no one ever did that to MM,” another user noted.

Experts weigh in on Meghan Markle's kitchen skills

Meghan’s technique - holding the knife with her index finger along the spine - has been widely criticized.

A YouTube tutorial from the prestigious Le Cordon Bleu culinary school demonstrates proper knife handling, explicitly labeling Markle's grip as “not acceptable.”

“This is not stable,” warned chef Jon-Paul Hutchins. “The other problem is, the strength in your arm ends up stressing the tendons in the back of your hand. So when you're cutting initially, it won't hurt. But when you're doing it for hours, all of a sudden you’re going to notice a lot of wrist fatigue.”

Michelin-starred chef Tom Shepherd, founder of Two Fold Spirits, echoed these concerns, telling FEMAIL: “In the clips, she holds the knife awkwardly, with her fingers too far back on the handle.”

He elaborated, saying, “This reduces control and makes cutting both less precise and more difficult. She also appears to be using the wrong type of knife for the task, which can make the process inefficient and even dangerous.”

Shepherd also advised: “A proper grip is key - placing the thumb and index finger on the blade near the handle (a pinch grip) offers much better control. "

"Choosing the right knife is also crucial; a chef’s knife is best for chopping, slicing, and dicing, while a paring knife is better for smaller, delicate tasks. Instead of lifting the knife completely off the board, she should use a smooth rocking motion to cut evenly and efficiently.”
