NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: First lady Melania Trump offered a rare glimpse into her private world while promoting her upcoming documentary, Melania, revealing that her son, Barron Trump, played a meaningful behind-the-scenes role in President Donald Trump’s 2024 campaign.

Speaking on Fox News’ 'The Five', which aired Wednesday, January 27, Melania discussed the 104-minute Amazon MGM Studios documentary that follows her through the 20 days leading up to the inauguration.

Melania says Barron shaped digital outreach strategy

Melania Trump said Barron was deeply engaged during his father’s re-election effort and offered strategic advice that reflected his understanding of modern media and political messaging.

“He understands now, he's involved,” Melania told Fox News. “He knows what's going on in the world. He talks with his dad. He talks with me.” She went on to describe Barron as a quiet but influential presence behind the scenes, particularly when it came to outreach beyond traditional political platforms.

“He was very involved in the campaign,” she said. “He gave him all of the ideas, who he needs to talk to, all of these YouTubers and podcasts. So he was, really, a smart mind behind it.”

Barron Trump quietly influences strategy as parents limit spotlight

Barron Trump is the only child of President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump. He was just 10 years old when his father was first elected in 2016 and has largely been kept out of the public spotlight since then.

Now 19, Barron graduated high school in May and has made only limited public appearances, even as his father returned to the political center stage. Both Donald and Melania Trump have been deliberate about protecting him from constant media exposure, particularly during his teenage years.

Despite his low profile, people within the Trump family’s orbit have seen more of Barron during his father’s political comeback. While he did not appear on the campaign trail in the traditional sense, Melania’s comments suggest he played a quieter advisory role, especially during moments of strategy and messaging.

Melania Trump stresses independence in new documentary

While discussing Barron, Melania also used the interview to talk about 'Melania', describing the filming process as all-consuming. “That was my life,” she said. “So, whatever I did, the cameras were following me. So, from morning 'til evening.”

The documentary captures moments inside Trump Tower in New York City, Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, and the White House, offering a rare look at Melania’s personal and professional responsibilities, from preparing for the inauguration to setting up the East Wing office.

She also emphasized her independence and control over her public presence. “I'm a very private person and a very selective person,” Melania said. “What I do, what I don't do, when I talk, when I don't talk and that's my choice, and nobody is in charge of me. And I'm not in charge of anybody else.”

In the same conversation, she reflected on her life with Trump before the presidency and said she always believed he would eventually run. “I always thought that one day he might go and run,” she said. “And I always told him, ‘If you do it, you will win.’”
