WASHINGTON, DC: As first lady Melania Trump walked into the House chamber before President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address, Republican lawmakers and supporters in the gallery stood and cheered.

The reception showed that she remains popular with Republicans and conservatives, even though the 2026 speech drew a sharply divided audience.

When Melania Trump entered the gallery overlooking the House floor, Republicans and other supporters cheered and whistled. Many stood to show their support.

When she was introduced, Democrats also rose, but only a few applauded, underscoring the deep partisan divide in Washington amid broader political tensions.

The applause for Melania came just before President Donald Trump began speaking. His address focused largely on his administration’s achievements and priorities ahead of the upcoming midterm elections.
