WASHINGTON, DC: As first lady Melania Trump walked into the House chamber before President Donald Trump’s State of the Union address, Republican lawmakers and supporters in the gallery stood and cheered.
The reception showed that she remains popular with Republicans and conservatives, even though the 2026 speech drew a sharply divided audience.

Everest Nevraumont, an 11-year-old guest of the first lady, champions the use of artificial intelligence, one of her passions. Her TEDx talk explores how she uses AI to learn. She is a student at the Alpha School in Austin, Texas, where learning is powered by AI.
Trump used the address to highlight his economic record, including major tax changes, immigration enforcement efforts and national security measures. He also recognized US Olympic athletes and praised individuals he described as examples of American strength.
