WASHINGTON, DC: Melania Trump officially kicked off the 2025 holiday season on Monday, November 24, welcoming this year’s White House Christmas Tree during a festive ceremony on the North Driveway.
The First Lady, 55, arrived in a cream-toned Dior cashmere coat paired with red leather gloves and plaid Manolo Blahnik heels, embracing a classic holiday palette as she greeted the horse-drawn wagon delivering the towering evergreen from Korson’s Tree Farms in Michigan.

President Trump was not present for the ceremony, having spent the morning on a call with Chinese President Xi Jinping as his foreign policy team worked toward a Thanksgiving deadline on a Russia-Ukraine peace framework.
Melania’s fashion choice, a floor-length Dior coat cinched with a matching belt, was accented with bright red gloves and her signature plaid Manolo Blahnik pumps, featuring hints of green in the pattern and an approximately three-inch stiletto heel. Her longtime stylist Hervé Pierre assembled the ensemble.
The First Lady appeared relaxed and cheerful as she inspected the evergreen, which was harvested in Sidney, Michigan, and transported to Washington by carriage.
“It will be beautiful! We are going to plan,” she repeated while admiring the tree. This marks Melania’s first holiday season back at the White House since returning to her role as First Lady in January.
Past holiday controversies resurface amid renewed attention on Melania Trump’s decor style
Melania’s holiday preparations have long attracted significant media attention, particularly after the release of a 2020 leaked audio clip in which she expressed frustration over criticism during the 2018 season. In the recording, she said, “I'm working my a*s off on the Christmas stuff, that you know, who gives a f**k about the Christmas stuff and decorations? But I need to do it, right?”
She added, “OK, and then I do it and I say that I’m working on Christmas and planning for the Christmas and they said, ‘Oh, what about the children that they were separated?’ Give me a f*****g break.”
That year, she famously decorated the White House with 40 bright red trees, a design she named “American Treasures.”
First Lady teases 2025 holiday theme with early preview
While the 2025 décor theme has not yet been formally revealed, Melania previewed a gold-themed Christmas look in October, sharing a video featuring ornate garlands, golden ornaments, and illuminated displays.
The official White House Christmas tree selection marks the start of the holiday build-out, which traditionally includes weeks of planning, decorating, and volunteer coordination.
White House holiday schedule continues ahead of Thanksgiving
As festive preparations begin, the Trumps are expected to travel to Mar-a-Lago for Thanksgiving after hosting the annual turkey pardon on Tuesday. This year’s Christmas tree, sourced from Michigan’s award-winning Korson’s Tree Farms, will serve as the centerpiece of the holiday décor unveiled in the coming days.
