LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Days after Melania Trump created headlines for the viral moment at the inauguration ceremony when her husband, US President Donald Trump appeared to struggle to kiss her because of her wide-brimmed hat, the First Lady is once again going viral for a “kiss.”

The 78-year-old Republican and his wife recently visited the fire-ravaged Los Angeles on Friday, January 24, when California Governor Gavin Newsom received the couple.

Soon, however, video footage from their meeting made its way to the internet, giving rise to social media users' speculations, as reported by Daily Mail.

Video footage has captured the moment the Trumps and Gavin Newsom exchanged greetings. As the newly elected President and his wife deplaned, Newsom stood on the tarmac to welcome them.

After greeting the President following a series of handshakes, Newsom turned toward Melania who met the governor with a warm smile. The duo also exchanged a quick kiss on the cheeks, which did not sit well with a section of netizens.

Soon, the moment went viral on the internet with several users drawing comparisons between their warm exchange to the viral moment from Trump’s inauguration when the President appeared to struggle to kiss his wife through her wide-brimmed hat.

As the clip went viral, social media was rife with wild speculations regarding Melania’s friendly kiss with Newsom, with many claiming that she was more comfortable kissing the California Democrat than her own husband.

Dressed in a blue dress from New York-based designer Adam Lippes at the inauguration, Melania accessorized with a pair of suede Manolo Blahnik heels and black leather gloves during the inauguration on January 20. It was, however, her Eric Javits hat that drew the maximum attention.

Several social media users even conjectured that she wore the hat to avoid getting a kiss from her husband. Nevertheless, several fans defended her stance as well, saying she appeared to receive an air kiss from Trump during the inauguration to preserve her makeup.

Many social media users were similarly reminded of her warm exchange with the former Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in 2019.

Melania Trump and Gavin Newsom's warm interaction fuels social media theory

As President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania touched down in California, their interaction with the California governor started taking center stage on social media. Speculative theories regarding Gavin Newsom and Melania's kiss started circulating on the internet as several netizens exclaimed at "how receptive she was to" Newsom.

One social media user tweeted while sharing a clip of their kiss, "Notice Melania Trump didn't wear a massive hat to prevent a kiss from Gavin Newsom.🍿."

"Gavin gets more affection," remarked one individual.

Someone else mused, "You notice how receptive she was too him 😂😩🙂‍↔️."

Comparing Melania's interaction with Justin Trudeau in the past, another netizen penned, "Makes me remember those candid photos of Melania smiling ear to ear, when speaking to Justin Trudeau!"

Another user conjectured, "“I’m telling you, I’m going to take care of your daughter”…It was like Gavin Newsom was meeting his Inlaw the way he kissed melania and walked away with her 😩😩😩."

"Gavin newsom is getting more of a kiss from Melania than Trump got at the inauguration," mused another netizen reflecting on the viral exchange.

Someone else compared, "Melania Trump kissing Donald Trump vs Melania Trump kissing Gavin Newsom."

Another user, meanwhile, added, "Melania looks more comfortable kissing @GavinNewsom than she does her husband."

Everyone was, however, not of the same opinion, as several fans defended the First Lady's behavior. Some even explained that Trump's botched kissing attempt at Melania could have been due to her desire to preserve her artfully created makeup.

One of the fans said, "Oh please. Y’all always making something out of nothing."

"Lol! Look at you stirring the pot!" castigated someone else, before explaining, "You know it’s cause of the sort of blush she had on for inauguration! She didn’t want to get that foundation jacked!"

"Bruh you know women have rules when they are wearing the inauguration makeup," explained another.
