LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: While Kamala Harris was accepting her party’s nomination for president, Michelle Obama was focused on Gus Walz, the 17-year-old son of vice presidential candidate Tim Walz.

Reflecting on the emotional moment when Gus cheered for his father, the former First Lady shared her thoughts on social media.

"I was touched to see Gus Walz’s joy when his dad @Tim_Walz took the stage last night," Obama tweeted. "Thankful for you showing us all what real love looks like, Gus.”

She further emphasized, “Let’s be a nation that embraces this kind of warmth and vulnerability, instead of making fun or mocking it. We could all use some of Gus’s example in our own lives.”

Michelle Obama urges compassion in response to Ann Coulter's criticism of Gus Walz

According to the Dailybeast, It was clear who Obama was addressing. Earlier that day, conservative commentator Ann Coulter had stirred controversy with a tweet that read, “Talk about weird...” in response to Gus Walz’s emotional reaction.

Coulter later deleted the tweet after being informed that Walz is neurodivergent. “I took it down as soon as someone told me he’s austistc [sic],” Coulter said, making a spelling error in the term “autistic.” She added, “but it’s Democrats who go around calling everyone weird thinking it’s hilariously funny.”

Michelle Obama’s past clash with Ann Coulter reignites amid controversy over Gus Walz

Michelle Obama has faced criticism from Ann Coulter before. In 2016, Coulter dismissed the idea that Melania Trump had plagiarized Obama’s convention speech, remarking, “It’s impossible to plagiarize twaddle.”

Coulter continued, “Melania’s speechwriter didn’t write them, but neither did Michelle’s speechwriter. ‘The only limit to what you achieve is your dreams’… We can go to a Rite Aid right now and find a million Hallmark cards that say it. ‘Your word is your bond’? They think Michelle Obama copyrighted that?”

In response to Coulter's tweet about Gus Walz, Michelle Obama’s subtle criticism was joined by more direct remarks from others.

Rosie O’Donnell criticized Coulter, saying, “Talk about a cruel, heartless woman—she’s the worst,” while Ana Navarro of 'The View' told Coulter to “leave Gus Walz the f**k alone.”
