WASHINGTON, DC: Former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee criticized the media for its reaction to President Joe Biden's recent debate performance.

Huckabee appeared on News Nation’s ‘On Balance with Leland Vittert’ and discussed the implications of Biden’s appearance.

The former governor argued that the media’s portrayal of Biden as being in top form was debunked by his debate performance, leading to widespread media criticism.

"I think the media has to accept some responsibility for the big lie that they have been telling for months now, and that is that Joe is top of his game, sharpest he’s ever been, just absolutely amazing,” he stated according to The Hill.

Huckabee said the debate showcased Biden's struggles, challenging the narrative previously upheld by news organizations.

The former governor noted that the debate, aired live on CNN, “put the media back on their heels,” making it evident that the 81-year-old Biden might not be as prepared for another term as suggested.

This performance led to a wave of panic among Democrats and prompted some news outlets to call for Biden to step aside in favor of another candidate to face former President Donald Trump.

During the debate, Joe Biden accused Donald Trump of sleeping with an adult actress, referencing Donald Trump's conviction in May on charges of falsifying business documents to cover up hush money payments to Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 election.

Huckabee pointed out that this was a rare moment where Biden directly targeted Trump, who remained mostly unreactive, contrary to the expectations of many Democrats hoping for a more explosive confrontation.

"He didn’t jump over the table and grab Judge Merchan by the neck, which I’m sure he was tempted to do. So, I think it was a good preparation and he realized there was nothing he needed to do to beat Joe Biden other than let Joe talk,” Huckabee said.

“He didn’t take Joe’s bait, everyone thought he would. I didn’t and he didn’t,” he concluded.

Internet reacts to Mike Huckabee's observation on media’s changing stance on Joe Biden

The Internet was abuzz with reactions to Mike Huckabee's comments and the broader implications of Joe Biden's debate performance and how left-leaning media who defended him earlier over his age-related issues reported it after the debate.

"Suggests? That's exactly what they did," wrote one user on X (formerly Twitter).

Another added, "No suggestions needed. just run the tape from CNN and MSNBC."

One user commented, "The media never really liked him to begin with, but this is overall a factual assessment."

Others echoed similar sentiments, with one writing, "True," and another stating, "This guy is only relevant to 10 people! No one cares about his politics. Go sit down."

Some users believed the media’s shift was strategic. One comment read, "They turned before then, softening their stance on Trump to give Dems the opportunity to replace Biden by exposing him. They would even knife their own."

Another user speculated, "Almost like it was planned. Hmmm."
