WASHINGTON, DC: Before the national Juneteenth celebration on Wednesday, June 19, Missouri secretary of state candidate Valentina Gomez, whose GOP campaign has frequently indulged in homophobic remarks, asked Black Americans to "get the f*** out" of the US if they still wanted reparations for slavery, according to HuffPost.

Gomez said in a viral video on Tuesday, June 18, "Reparations from slavery and Black victimization is about to be shoved down our throats for the most ratchet holiday in America. BLM [Black Lives Matter] raised millions. And what did they do for Black lives?"

Gomez added, "It is outrageous to see people ask you for reparations, even though they never went through slavery. These ungrateful people should be celebrating because they were born in the greatest nation to ever exist."

Notably, Gomez sounded perplexed in criticizing reparations for individuals who "never went through slavery," even though that is precisely who they are for. Gomez, it appeared, did not understand that Black Lives Matter was established as a protest movement against police brutality rather than as a call for reparations.

Furthermore, she said, "Here’s a tip. If you don’t like America, kindly, get the f*** out."

Notably, President Joe Biden formally declared Juneteenth to be a national holiday in 2021, although Black families in the United States have been celebrating the day for decades. It honors the emancipation of America's last slaves in Galveston, Texas, in 1865.

Notably, many Republicans have been against reparations, including Black right-wing critic Candace Owens. The TV host said in 2021 that Democrats are "trying to repackage segregation" and referred to the holiday as "ghetto and made up" in 2023.

Meanwhile, Gomez told HuffPost in a statement on Tuesday, "America is the Greatest Country in the World. If you are not a slave, then you DO NOT deserve any reparations."

She added, "Straight White men built the roads we drive on, the buildings where we live, and the ones that fought and declared independence from the tyranny of the British for us to have freedom and the pursuit of happiness. To ANYONE that does not like America, GTFO."

Notably, Valentina's family came to the US in quest of the three things that the country stands for, safety, advancement, and hope, according to her website.

Gomez's comments draw backlash

People on the internet grilled Valentina Gomez as she asked Black Americans to "get the f*** out" of the US if they still wanted reparations for slavery.

A user posted on X, "The only thing that's ratchet is you sis. Go sit down somewhere," while one added, "Right plus we don’t need anyone with cartel ties in office."

A person stated, "Wait... you weren't even born here, were you? And you're only 25? Those formative years must have been rough," whereas one mentioned, "What's ratchet is being new to this country, gaining a political role, and degrading the indigenous people of this land for clout and votes."

A user added, "Telling someone to leave America when you're one boat away from Mexico is crazy..."
