Myrta Romanos: Stepmom of suspect arrested in pregnant teen Savanah Soto and her boyfriend's murder
LEON VALLEY, TEXAS: A third person was arrested in the murder of pregnant Texas teen Savanah Soto and her boyfriend Matthew Guerra on Wednesday, January 10, 2024.
The stepmother of the accused killer was charged for allegedly helping dump the bodies of the pregnant teen and her boyfriend after they were fatally shot, as per the New York Post.
Myrta Romanos, who as per the Police is the stepmother of the alleged killer, has been accused of altering, destroying, or concealing a human corpse, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with evidence, Lt Michelle Ramos said.
For context, 19-year-old Christopher Preciado has been charged with capital murder in the December 2023 deaths of Soto and her boyfriend. Preciado’s father, Ramon Preciado, 53, was charged with abuse of a corpse.
Myrta Romanos dumped Savanah Soto's and Guerra's bodies
As she was led into a police vehicle on Wednesday afternoon, 47-year-old Romanos brushed off a barrage of inquiries from the media on her potential involvement while still wearing handcuffs.
According to court documents, Ramon Preciado is also accused of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, eluding arrest, and changing, destroying, or hiding a human corpse.
Savanah Soto, 18, and Matthew Guerra, 22, were found dead in Guerra's Kia Optima, the day after Christmas in a parking lot of an apartment complex, police said.
Leon Valley police said that when Soto disappeared, she was past her delivery date and that her family had contacted San Antonio police because she missed “an essential medical appointment.”
As per NBC News, Ramon, who is the live-in partner of Romanos, was seen with her on surveillance tape traveling together as they allegedly left their house to dispose of the dead before coming back.
Romanos fabricated a story
When police interviewed Romanos on January 4 following the arrest of Christopher and Ramon, she claimed she thought she was asleep at the time Soto and Guerra were killed and their bodies were transported, according to an affidavit obtained by KSAT.
"There was a lot of information on social media that there was a third individual involved,” San Antonio police Lt Michelle Ramos said during a press briefing streamed on the television station.
"Our homicide detectives were aware of that, however, we were looking for enough probable cause to make that arrest and present the best case forward to the DA’s office,” Ramos added.
Additionally, investigators led Romanos out of the police station while sporting a black shirt by Ozzy Osborne. She went into the back of a police cruiser without saying anything.
