MYRTLE BEACH, SOUTH CAROLINA: Rep Nancy Mace (R-SC) clashed with a reporter on Wednesday, August 6, after a town hall in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, when the journalist questioned her about taking credit for infrastructure funding tied to a bill she voted against.

Mace is currently focused on securing an endorsement from President Donald Trump, who has not yet thrown his support behind any Republican primary contender in South Carolina’s gubernatorial race.

At the event, Nancy Mace described herself as “one of the most serious members of Congress.” Yet, about 15 minutes later, she vowed to outlaw “chemtrails” and pledged to eliminate fluoride from South Carolina’s drinking water.

When the reporter pointed out that the I-5/26 interchange funding stemmed from the Inflation Reduction Act, legislation Mace opposed, she defended her stance, insisting that members of Congress are still responsible for ensuring their states receive appropriations.

The tension boiled over when Mace accused the reporter of being “a raging Democrat” and “very confused,” framing the questioning as politically biased and dismissive toward conservative women.

She said, “You’re very confused. And you’re a raging Democrat, so raging leftist with that kind of questioning. And I would say as a woman, like, you might wanna think about how you view other women and how you treat other women the way that you question them, because women are gonna lead this country off the brink. And conservative women, the first female president of this country is going to be a conservative woman, not some liberal like you.”

Mace closed by urging the journalist to “read the Constitution,” highlighting a combative style she has displayed in past interviews, including a 2024 confrontation with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos over her endorsement of Trump.

Rep Nancy Mace (R-SC) is under fire online after lashing out at a reporter who fact-checked her during a town hall in Myrtle Beach on Wednesday. The tense exchange, triggered by a question about funding, quickly spread online, and so did the mockery.

Many users ridiculed Mace for what they saw as an overreaction.

“Wow, the reporter asked a question about funding and Nancy Mace goes ballistic,” one person wrote.

“Another Republican taking credit for Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act,” another added.

“Mace pulls that gender card like ninjas in movies use those smoke bombs to escape,” one comment read. Another joked, “Wtf is a ‘raging Democrat’ lol. Reporters are supposed to ask questions haha.”

“It seems safe to assume that anyone doing actual fact checking is likely not a Republican — but they needn’t be a raging Democrat. They could also be a raging independent or perhaps just someone who knows that Republicans are compulsive liars,” one user quipped.

“Two White House officials told The Washington Post that Trump doesn’t actually plan to require insurance companies to cover IVF. Sure, sure he ‘cares’ about women,” an individual wrote.

And some mocked Mace’s work ethic claims, with one saying, “I love how she makes it sound like she’s working real hard. Just toiling away. Nose to the grindstone.”
