NBA champion Magic Johnson ridiculed for praising Kamala Harris' 'real vision' during CNN interview

WASHINGTON, DC: Magic Johnson, five-time NBA champion and Basketball Hall of Famer, is facing backlash once again for expressing his political opinion.

After drawing criticism during the Democratic National Convention for praising the speeches of former president Barack Obama and former first lady Michelle Obama, Johnson is now under fire for his recent comments about Vice President Kamala Harris.

Magic Johnson praises Kamala Harris for 'outstanding' interview

Magic Johnson took to X to express his admiration for Vice President Kamala Harris’ vision following her first media interview since receiving the Democratic Party's nomination.

In his posts, Johnson commended Harris for her performance during the interview. "Vice President Kamala Harris was outstanding in her CNN interview tonight! She has a real vision for the country," Johnson wrote on X.

Fox News reported that Harris faced criticism for her lack of specificity which echoed in the reactions on social media.

Despite Johnson's support, Harris' interview received mixed reactions, particularly for her vague response regarding her "day one" agenda, reports Fox News.

 "She rambled on and on and said absolutely nothing except they will bump the child tax credit. They will need to do more than bump it if they start price fixing and put a 25% tax on unrealized capital gains and crash our economy," one X user wrote on X.

Magic Johnson says Kamala Harris explained why she changed viewpoints

Magic Johnson continued to praise Kamala Harris by acknowledging her stance on key issues in another post on X.

"VP Harris was strong and clear about her positions on the economy, foreign policy, immigration, and other issues. She clearly explained why she changed viewpoints on a couple of issues, which shows her humility, growth, and willingness to be open," he wrote in the post.

In addition to his comments on Harris, Johnson also praised Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, her running mate, saying, "A special shoutout to her running mate Governor Tim Walz who also did a great job tonight and to anchor Dana Bash for a fantastic interview."

Internet mocks Magic Johnson's support of Kamala Harris

Social media users quickly ridiculed Magic Johnson for his supportive comments about Kamala Harris.  

One commenter questioned Johnson’s praise, asking, "What’s the vision? Be specific."

Another mocked Johnson by writing, "Stevie Wonder has better vision." A user  criticized saying, "Okay Magic. She’s been in office for 3.5 years and done jack shit. She’s terrible."

Others questioned Harris’ track record, with one user writing, "She’s failed for 3.5 years… What makes you believe this vision, which is the same failed policy of this administration she’s a part of, would bring this country to a better place?"

Another joked about Johnson’s motivations, saying, "Democrats must have paid Magic Johnson for the login to his X account."

The criticism continued with one user writing, "What is it? Watched it twice and she gave ZERO vision…"
