CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: Democratic vice presidential candidate and Minnesota Gov Tim Walz recently came under fire from MAGA supporters for forcefully tugging on his son Gus' arm on the stage at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday, August 21.

However, a new clip has gone viral online which shows that Walz was only trying to ensure that his 17-year-old son, who has been diagnosed with ADHD, an anxiety disorder, and a non-verbal learning disorder, did not run into the teleprompter on stage.

The Walz family has been open about Gus' condition, with the governor referring to them as his son's "secret power".

Why Tim Walz 'aggressively' tugged Gus on DNC stage

An extended clip highlighting the moment that Tim Walz pulled Gus on stage has been shared on the social media platform X by conservative commentator Collin Rugg, which showed how the VP candidate had made a split-second attempt to successfully help his son avoid the teleprompter on stage.

Rugg had earlier shared a shorter clip of the incident, where he stated, "Some are theorizing that Walz was pulling Gus’ arm out of anger while others say he was simply excited at the moment."

He clarified himself in the new tweet, writing, "Full video of Tim Walz tugging his son's arm appears to show that he was quickly pulling him so he wouldn't run into the teleprompter on stage."

"Walz came under fire after online users accused him of being too aggressive with his special needs son. A more detailed video of the situation suggests Walz was just acting quickly to stop his son from hitting the teleprompter."

"The full video gives a better perspective of where the teleprompter was compared to the Walz family," he shared, adding, "Walz's daughter, who was next to Gus Walz, walked in front of the teleprompter while Gus, who appeared to be walking right towards the teleprompter, was pulled behind it."

Internet apologizes for being quick to judge Tim Walz

Netizens reacting to the extended clip on X expressed that they were at fault to hastily judge Tim Walz for his action, even though MAGA supporters continued to oppose him on principle. The following tweets demonstrate the take.

"I’m glad to know the true story. I was quick to jump on it too, I guess, because of my complete and utter dislike of Tim Walz," wrote a user.

"Yes, having worked with special needs children, one can’t be too quick to judge on a small snapshot like this. I’m not a fan of Walz, but we don’t need to demonize everything he does. That’s what Democrats do," stated another.

"Frustrating that this is even news. Children with special needs often require some extra aggressive intervention before they hurt themselves or others. Walz is still a radical leftist, so there’s still plenty to criticize without this," shared a third.

"I was quick to jump on this as well, but at-least we can admit when we were wrong, but I do want to point out that this doesn’t change a darn thing and fake coach Stolen Valor Tim Walz is still a POS," echoed a fourth.

"People need to leave Gus Walz ALONE. The emotion he showed on Wednesday night was genuine and heartfelt. Anyone attacking him is doing a disservice to their candidate - it makes you look like aholes," commented a fifth.

"I'm no Tim Walz fan, but everyone knows you have to be a bit different with special needs kids. Especially one as happy and excited as this one. He is doing the same as any dad, just trying to control the situation," expressed yet another.
