CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: Democratic vice presidential candidate and Minnesota Governor Tim Walz kept his popularity as a former high school football coach in the foreground as he addressed an enthusiastic crowd on the evening of Wednesday, August 21, the third day of the Democratic National Convention (DNC) in Chicago.

Mankato West high school football players, who were trained by Coach Walz between 1996 and 2002, went up on stage at the United Center to introduce the latter to address the convention, Forbes reported.

Throughout the speech, Walz kept returning to football talk, whether for slamming GOP nominee Donald Trump or hailing Democratic nominee Kamala Harris.

Tim Walz calls Project 2025 as Donald Trump's 'playbook'

"Some folks just don't understand what it takes to be a good neighbor. Take Donald Trump and JD Vance," Tim Walz stated, as the audience booed loudly. "Their Project 2025 will make things much, much harder for people who are just trying to live their lives."

"They’ve spent a lot of time pretending they know nothing about this," he continued, leading to his football reference. "But look, I coached high school football long enough to know, and trust me on this when somebody takes the time to draw up a playbook, they’re going to use it.”

Tim Walz's 'pep talk' for Kamala Harris' campaign

"You know, I have not given a lot of big speeches like this. But I have given a lot of pep talks," Tim Wal quipped at the end of his speech.

"So let me finish with this, team. It's the fourth quarter. We’re down a field goal. But we’re on offense and we’ve got the ball. We’re driving down the field. And, boy, do we have the right team."

"Kamala Harris is tough. Kamala Harris is experienced and Kamala Harris is ready. Our job ... is to get in the trenches and do all the blocking and tackling. One inch at a time. One yard at a time. One phone call at a time. One door knock at a time. One $5 donation at a time. Look, we got 76 days. That's nothing. There's going to be time to sleep when you're dead. We're going to leave it on the field. That's how we'll keep moving forward," he concluded on a high note.
