CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: The roll call vote on the second day of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, August 20, was anything but conventional, with a surprise performance by Lil Jon leading the call from his home state of Georgia.

According to NBC News, the roll call vote was strictly ceremonial this year as Vice President Kamala Harris had received her party's nomination in a virtual roll call earlier in August, before announcing Minnesota Gov Tim Walz as her running mate. The Democrats were thus free to heavily lean into the ceremonial aspect of the event and brought on a DJ, popular music, and famous guests to amp up the show.

Lil Jon's performance at the DNC

The award-winning rapper from Atlanta appeared in the arena to introduce the delegation from Georgia at the DNC, performing his hits 'Turn Down for What' and 'Get Low' with new twists to match the event.

As he walked through the cheering crowd toward the rest of his state delegation and state chairwoman, Rep Nikema Williams, Lil Jon rapped, "DNC, turn down for what?"

He mixed up the lyrics with another one of his hits, 'Get Low' ft the East Side Boys. Instead of following the original lyric that went 'to the window, to the wall,' Lil Jon belted out, "VP Harris, gimme the Walz."

"Mr Secretary, the South got something to say," announced Congresswoman Williams, over the infectious beat which had all the representatives around her swaying. "Extremists in Georgia are trying to silence our voices by kicking s Georgians out of the rolls and making it harder to vote. But y'all, when we send Kamala Harris to the White House, she'll fight for our freedom to vote, our reproductive freedom, and our freedom to thrive. In the spirit of 'good trouble,' Georgia cast 123 votes for the next president of the United States, Kamala Harris."

The DJ at the event played a unique song for each state as the roll call continued, reported NPR. For Alabama, it was 'Sweet Home Alabama' by Lynyrd Skynyrd, while for Florida, it was Tom Petty's song 'Won't Back Down,' which served as a jibe for the state Gov Ron DeSantis' super PAC, Never Back Down, Inc.
