Nicole Kidman makes rare comment on her 2023 Oscar win, says she ‘was beyond lonely’
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Nicole Kidman has shared a rare insight into her decades-old Oscar win, revealing that the achievement made her feel “lonely” but also made her realize that she needed to have a life.
The A-list actress won the prestigious award in 2003 for her role in ‘The Hours’, two years after divorcing her first husband, Tom Cruise.

On the Thursday, September 10, episode of the Therapuss podcast with host Jake Shane, Kidman spoke about her experience while promoting her movie, ‘Practical Magic 2’. She said, “I was beyond lonely. I had the pinnacle of my success, and I went home and was so lonely.”
“So, yeah, crazy, though, that sort of the confluence of events where you go, ‘I wish…’ I had my mom with me and my dad, but I was like, ‘Where’s my partner, someone that I can share this with?’” the 59-year-old recalled.

The ‘Eyes Wide Shut’ star further noted that “it was one of the most profound moments where I went, ‘I’ve got to get a life’ and at the same time, I’m holding this gold statue where you go, ‘This is, this is it. This is the highest sort of prize you can get in our industry.’ And so grateful and yet so lonely.”
Describing her feelings as “weird”, Kidman added, “I’d love to be able to just, you know, be wrapped in somebody’s arms right now. I’d love to be around now, something that feels really, ‘Oh, okay. This is my real life.’”
Nicole Kidman married twice but both ended in divorce
The film producer and Cruise were married from 1990 to 2001. They adopted two children together, Isabella "Bella" Jane Cruise and Connor Cruise.
Later, in 2006, Kidman married her second husband, Keith Urban, and became the mother of two daughters, Sunday Rose, 18, and Faith Margaret, 15.
Their marriage went south in 2025, and they finalized their divorce in 2026.

Kidman had previously also talked about her Oscar win and how she really felt at the time.
She revealed to author Dave Karger in his book ‘50 Oscar Nights’, “I was struggling with things in my personal life, yet my professional life was going so well. That’s what happens, right?”
“I’m not a big party girl, so I was going to skip the Vanity Fair party, and everyone was like, ‘You’ve got to go. You’ve got to walk through the party carrying your Academy Award’. I said, ‘That just feels like gloating, and it doesn’t feel humble.’ Like, what? You can’t walk through carrying the award! That feels really inappropriate. They’re like, ‘That’s what you do,’” Kidman had added.
