COLUMBIA, SOUTH CAROLINA: Senator Lindsey Graham, R-SC, has found himself in hot water after warning that former president Donald Trump "will lose" the 2024 general election if he keeps harping on his defeat in 2020.

On Sunday, December 24, the 68-year-old Senator appeared on ABC’s 'This Week', where he claimed that the 77-year-old front-runner for the GOP nomination can win the presidential race only if his focus is on “improving security and prosperity for Americans.”

“I accept the election results of 2020. I'm worried about 2024,” he said, adding, “If President Trump puts the vision out, improving security and prosperity for Americans, he will win. If he looks back, I think he will lose."

“So, at the end of the day, the 2020 election’s over for me. We need to secure the ballot in the 2024 cycle,” Graham continued, according to US Today.

Graham countered that Trump is not the first presidential candidate to assert that the election was rigged against them, citing remarks made by Hillary Clinton following her defeat by Trump in 2016.

“Hillary Clinton had the same view that she was cheated. He’s not the first politician to claim to have been denied a fair election,” Graham said.

Lindsey Graham slams Colorado SC’s ruling

At another point during the interview, Graham attacked the Colorado Supreme Court decision that barred Trump from running in the state's GOP primary in 2024.

The court found the former president violated the 14th Amendment and “engaged in insurrection” amidst the Jan 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.

“It is a political decision. The hatred of Trump is so widespread,” Graham said, reflecting on the ruling. “This Colorado Supreme Court made a political decision. In my view, there is no constitutional basis for the decision they rendered,” he added.

Graham, who is backing Trump in the 2024 GOP primary, expressed confidence that the case will be a "slam dunk" and that the decision will be reversed.

“Donald Trump will eventually be on the ballot in Colorado. I think he will win the primary,” the senator said. “But this ruling in Colorado is chilling to me and it would set up a politicization of the presidential races. It would be bad for the country.”

Internet slams Lindsey Graham over remarks

Graham’s remarks have garnered immense social media attention, with users slamming him for suggesting that Trump could lose in 2024 if he keeps focusing on the 2020 election.

“No one cares what dandy thinks,” one user mocked. “Lindsey Graham will say anything to anyone at any time if there might be any benefit to him, or even just a camera pointed his way,” another user trolled.

“Since when does anybody with a brain listen to Lindsey Graham,” a third slammed while a fourth said, “Lindsay Graham should do his job and not be in front of the media 24/7.”

“Note to Lindsey-stop that emotional eating. You’re better not fretting over Trump, you fundraised before him & you can w/out him,” another said.

“Who cares? Worst president ever. Heartless little man with no brain. In order to make America great means putting trump in jail and throwing away the key,” a user wrote.
