HOUSTON, TEXAS: During a recent interview with Fox News on Wednesday morning, April 3, Texas Governor Greg Abbott launched a scathing attack on President Joe Biden's immigration policies, accusing them of "murdering Americans" by allowing undocumented migrants to enter the country unchecked across the US-Mexico border.

Governor Abbott lambasted the Biden administration over the rising number of Americans killed by undocumented migrants, asserting that the lack of stringent border control measures has led to a surge in crime and jeopardized the safety of American citizens.

Abbott's allegations

Abbott's remarks come amidst plummeting approval ratings for President Biden's handling of immigration, particularly when compared to Donald Trump's policies, Mediaite reported.

"It seems like President Biden has turned his focus to abortion, and especially over the last ten days. He’s all about health care right now and getting away from the border. Do you think that can win this year?" Fox News host Bill Hemmer asked Gov Abbott.

"Because what we have suffered in the United States by Joe Biden’s illegal immigration policies, by the lack of safety, by the number of Americans who are being killed by the migrants allowed in across the border illegally by the Biden administration," the Texas Republican responded.

"This is what you call the murder by government policy. And Americans are sick and tired of it. Americans are going to vote for safety in this election," he continued, adding, "If you’re not safe in your home and your business and your community, you can’t do anything else. Americans are going to come out in droves and vote for safety and common sense in this election."

Past criticism

Governor Abbott's vocal criticism of the Biden administration's immigration policies is not a recent development. Last month, he rebuked President Biden's State of the Union address, arguing that it offered no viable solutions to the immigration crisis.

“He is doing nothing about the border,” Abbott told NBC News’ White House correspondent Gabe Gutierrez, calling the address a “slap in the face.”

Abbott's own initiative, Operation Lone Star, aimed at bolstering border security through various measures including deploying razor wire and increasing law enforcement presence, stands in stark contrast to what he perceives as the federal government's inaction.

Moreover, Abbott's clashes with the Biden administration extend beyond mere rhetoric. He has been engaged in disputes over control of areas like Shelby Park in Eagle Pass, where migrant-related incidents have resulted in fatalities.

“Clearly, nationally and in every single state, there’s a number one issue in America, and that’s securing the border. He (Biden) has failed. And he waited 40 minutes to even bring it up. And when he brought it up, he provided no solutions whatsoever, and hardly any empathy whatsoever,” Abbott said. “He gave a slap in the face to an overwhelming majority of Americans, including even Democrats, who say ‘Do something about the border,’ and he is doing nothing about the border.”

Abbott maintained that states have the authority to push back against illegal immigration and has defended his use of the term "invasion" to describe the situation at the border. He also lashed out at the border bill that was struck down by Republicans in Congress in February.

“What is in the US Senate is not a border bill, it’s a Ukraine funding bill with some gimmicks added to it that do absolutely nothing to decrease crossings and actually it cements and allows crossings across the border,” Abbott explained. “If we had a genuine leader as POTUS who really did want to get something done to secure the border, he would work with his own party to work with a Republican-passed bill to get that law passed.”

Social media backlash

However, Abbott's critics excoriated him on social media for accusing the Biden administration of "murder by government policy."

"Now do gun violence," one posted on X.

"So, Abbott, tell me something about gun deaths including children," another wrote.

"Immigrants do not increase the chance you will be the victim of a crime. This is just racist fearmongering," someone else offered.

"Crime in the cities where the migrants have been flown to has actually dropped. You guys like to point out one or two instances and make a big effing deal out of it, but the fact is there are far more criminals in the Trump crime family than among the immigrants," a comment read.

"He should be pushing for passage of the bipartisan Senate deal that Trump is stopping for political purposes. The problem won't solve itself!" another insisted.
