WASHINGTON, DC: A social media account affiliated with the re-election campaign of President Joe Biden recently faced criticism on social media for sharing a clip from former President Donald Trump's speech on illegal immigrants without providing adequate context.

The account, known as ‘Biden-Harris HQ’, posted a 7-second clip of former President Trump referring to illegal immigrants as "animals," but omitted his statement from just seconds earlier in which he had specifically directed the comment at migrants convicted of murder.

As a result, the post was perceived by many as misleading and generated significant backlash on social media.

What did the purported video clip entail?

"Democrats said please don’t call immigrants ‘animals,’” Donald Trump is seen saying in the brief video clip released by the Biden campaign account, "I said, no, they're not humans, they're animals," omitting important background information from moments earlier when the former president was talking about the undocumented immigrant who had been apprehended in connection with Laken Riley's murder.

In Trump's full statement which was omitted from the Biden campaign‘s uploaded footage, the 77-year-old said, "Just a few weeks ago I met with the grieving family of Laken Riley," claiming that the 22-year-old college student was "barbarically murdered by an illegal alien animal. Democrats said please don’t call immigrants ‘animals.’ I said, no, they’re not humans, they’re animals."

During his speech, the 2024 presumptive GOP nominee referenced several cases in which young Americans were killed by immigrants who had entered the United States illegally through the southern border, according to Fox News.

Specifically, he mentioned the case of 25-year-old Ruby Garcia, who was allegedly murdered by an illegal immigrant who had previously been deported in 2020 but managed to re-enter the country during President Joe Biden's term.

President Joe Biden's campaign team was chastised by the Trump team and other conservatives for withholding the quote's entire context.

Team Trump posted on X, "Why is the Biden campaign constantly jumping to the defense of bloodthirsty illegal alien murderers who killed American citizens? President Trump was clearly speaking of Laken Riley’s killer here.”

Donald Trump Jr tweeted, “Another day and another hoax from the Biden campaign. It's bloodbath part two. Here is the full video where Trump is clearly calling the illegal who murdered Laken Riley an animal. Does Biden think her killer is a good person and not an animal???"

The Republican National Convention wrote on X, “Biden's misinformation is disgusting — a pathetic, embarrassing, contemptuous affront to Americans who just want to feel safe in their own backyards. Never before has an American president defended illegal aliens over his country's own citizens."

On X, the Biden campaign video has been watched approximately 5 million times.

On Tuesday, Trump made two addresses at campaign rallies in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Green Bay, Wisconsin, with a strong emphasis on immigration and President Joe Biden's role in it.

"I'm here tonight to declare that Joe Biden's border bloodbath… this is a border bloodbath — ends the day I take the oath of office," Trump declared to the Green Bay crowd.

"With your vote, I will seal the border. I will stop the invasion. I will end the carnage, bloodshed and killing, and we will crush the human traffickers," the former POTUS remarked.

Internet divided over Trump's speech without context

People on X shared their reactions and opinions regarding President Joe Biden's campaign team posting clips of former President Donald Trump's fiery campaign speech without prior context, attempting to portray him in a negative light.

One X user remarked: "The Biden campaign uses propaganda and outright lies, nothing new."

Another user said: "In their eagerness to get something major they are flailing at everything. One thing for sure is that they won't stop."

Another user argued: "The context doesn’t make the quote any better."

One user claimed: "They lie on purpose to drive the narrative then quietly retract. Used to work. Now it just makes people pissed - they’re not stupid"

Another X user remarked: "That's what they do. People have opened their eyes to the games and lies they try to spin."

Another user said: "Stop excusing Donald’s repulsive comments with this kind of nonsense."

Finally, this user tweeted: "Well documented all migrants or essentially undocumented immigrants are recognized as ´animals’ in MAGA world."
