NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: President Joe Biden took to X (formerly Twitter) to state the importance of the Affordable Connectivity Program on Wednesday, April 3, 2024.

Aimed at providing reliable and high-speed internet across all households in the country, the incumbent pushed for its extension by Congress so the goal is met faster.

President Joe Biden says internet is an 'absolute necessity'

From the official account of POTUS on X, Joe Biden shared a clip where he stated, "High-speed internet isn't a luxury anymore, it's an absolute necessity. These investments help all Americans in red states and blue states as well. And we are not leaving anybody behind."

"It's critical for children to be able to do their homework. Small businesses to be able to sell their products. Filks to have access to telemedicine without driving to see their doctors if they live in the countryside," he continued.

The video further noted that 23 million households across the country "are at risk of losing affordable internet access because some Congressional Republicans believe the program is wasteful."

"Congress needs to reauthorize that program now," the President demanded before the clip ended.

He captioned the video, "Some Congressional Republicans call the Affordable Connectivity Program wasteful. I call it necessary. It’s time Congress extended it so the 23 million households across America that rely on the program can stay connected."

Internet reacts to Biden's push for Affordable Connectivity Program

Netizens had mixed opinions after President Joe Biden pushed for the extension of the Affordable Connectivity Program by Congress and emphasized the need for internet across the country.

"Access to affordable connectivity is essential for millions of families. Let's prioritize support for programs that bridge the digital divide and ensure everyone stays connected," wrote a social media user.

"Worst president ever and maybe you could extend it if you wouldn’t have sent billions to Ukraine…," another said.

"Accessible internet isn't wasteful; it's essential for education, employment, and healthcare access. Let's prioritize connectivity for millions of households," noted one user.

"We pay more for internet and cell phone service in this country than the rest of the world does. Fix that instead of creating a program to pay for it," stated another user.

"Is there ANY government spending you don't think is NECESSARY, Joe?" asked one person.
