GRAND RAPIDS, MICHIGAN: Mavi Garcia, the sister of Michigan resident Ruby Garcia, 25, who was reportedly murdered by her illegal immigrant boyfriend, has disputed former president Donald Trump's claim that he had spoken with the grieving family during a recent event.

During Tuesday’s campaign event in Grand Rapids, the 77-year-old presumptive GOP nominee allegedly stated that he had communicated with the Garcia family, the New York Post reported.

However, Mavi Garcia and her relatives have refuted this claim, revealing that they watched in utter disbelief as the former POTUS made the flawed assertion.

What did Mavi Garcia say about Donald Trump’s claim of having reached out to them?

Speaking on behalf of her family, Mavi Garcia claimed that neither Donald Trump nor anyone from his campaign had reached out to her or any members of her immediate family. She said she would know if that had transpired because her family is close.

Garcia told local news outlet WOOD-TV, “He did not speak with any of us, so it was kind of shocking seeing that he had said that he had spoke with us, and misinforming people on live TV.”

“It was shocking. I kind of stopped watching it. I’d only seen up to that, after I heard a couple of misinformations he said, I just stopped watching it,” she added.

Ruby Garcia was shot multiple times, and her body was discovered on the side of US-131 on March 22.

Brandon Ortiz-Vite, her alleged boyfriend, who is 25 years old, eventually confessed to shooting Garcia following an argument, disposing of her dead body, and taking off in her car.

Ortiz-Vite was deported by the Trump administration in 2020, but he was able to return to the United States and was charged with a slew of charges after being apprehended for Ruby Garcia's killing.

During his rally in Grand Rapids, Trump had brought up Garcia's death and claimed to have spoken with "some" of her family.

“Now Ruby’s loved ones and community are left grieving for this incredible young woman, remembering what they called her,” the MAGA figurehead remarked.

“They said she had just this most contagious laughter, and when she walked into a room, she lit up that room. And I’ve heard that from so many people. I spoke to some of her family,” he added.

Garcia's family did not show up for Trump’s Tuesday campaign rally despite the former POTUS expressing in an interview with a Detroit radio station on Monday that he would "love" to see them there "if they'd like to be there."

Mavi Garcia criticized Donald Trump for bringing up immigration issues in an interview with the local outlet, even though she hoped Ortiz-Vite had "stayed in Mexico."

“It’s always been about illegal immigrants,” Garcia said, before adding, “Nobody really speaks about when Americans do heinous crimes, and it’s kind of shocking why he would just bring up illegals. What about Americans who do heinous crimes like that?”

The former president has emphasized the recent, well-publicized murders carried out by undocumented immigrants, referring to them as "Biden's border bloodbath."

About Ortiz-Vite, Trump claimed that "this monster had been deported, thrown out of the country" during his administration.

Trump said, “He wasn’t going to be able to come back, [because] you just have to look at the charts, it was very, very hard to get in, but he came back — and we threw him out of the country and Crooked Joe Biden took him back.”
