Kate Winslet’s take on Hollywood’s weight loss trend
Kate Winslet candidly shared her initial ignorance and subsequent dismay regarding the medication.
“I actually don’t know what Ozempic is,” the actress admitted, adding, “All I know is that it’s some pill that people are taking or something like that.”
Her reaction turned into disbelief after being informed that Ozempic is an injectable drug originally intended for diabetes management, but is now widely used for weight loss.
“Oh, my God,” she remarked, adding “This sounds terrible," as per the publication.
Kate Winslet's struggle with body image
Kate Winslet also opened up about her challenges with body image, particularly during the peak of her fame following the release of 'Titanic.'
She revealed that she developed an eating disorder which she kept a secret because of the societal praise associated with weight loss.
“I never told anyone about it,” she asserted, emphasizing the problematic nature of equating appearance with compliments.
"Because guess what—people in the world around you go: ‘Hey, you look great! You lost weight!' So even the compliment about looking good is connected to weight, she said, adding, "And that is one thing I will not let people talk about. If they do, I pull them up straight away."
Kate Winslet reveals how she battled tabloid criticism
In a February 2021 interview with The Guardian, Winslet reflected on her past experiences with the media, recalling the harsh scrutiny she faced from British tabloids that would mostly focus on her appearance
Winslet described the commentary on her body as “shocking, how critical, how straight-up cruel tabloid journalists were to me.”
"They would comment on my size, they'd estimate what I weighed, they'd print the supposed diet I was on," she told the outlet, adding, "It was critical and horrible and so upsetting to read."
She said she was still "figuring out who the hell I bloody well was!" when all this was happening.
Kate Winslet says she regretted not standing up against criticism
In December 2022, she expressed on the 'Happy Sad Confused' podcast that she wished to have stood against the treatment she received.
"I would have said, 'Don't you dare treat me like this. I'm a young woman, my body is changing", Winslet said, adding, "I'm figuring it out, I'm deeply insecure, I'm terrified, don't make this any harder than it already is.'"
She further said, "This nonsense on commenting on bodies and how women look, it's getting better but we've still got such a ways to go."
