Olivia Wilde says relationships don't end overnight
During her recent appearance on the ‘Call Her Daddy’ podcast, the ‘Don't Worry Darling’ star said, “It's no surprise to me that I ended up making a movie about relationships and the complexity of determining whether a relationship is over because it is not an overnight process.”
“It’s very difficult,” she stated, before going on to give details about the time when she understood the relationship with Sudeikis was over.
“We were driving home from my birthday party, my friends had had. And I said, 'Did you get me a birthday present?' And he said, 'What would I get you, Olivia? I don't know you.’ And he wasn't wrong. We didn't know each other anymore,” Wilde shared.
Olivia Wilde claims she and Jason Sudeikis had stopped 'engaging in the knowing of each other'
Further explaining, the actress, 42, continued, “And this is the thing that made me wanna make ['The Invite'] because, or one of the things, because you can get to a place in a relationship where you stop engaging in the knowing of each other in the curiosity about each other.”
“And you find yourself in a place where you're like, 'I don't even know you.' And that was a point, that was when we realized it was over, and it was f*****g tough. And it brought us to the place of like, 'OK, this is done. We're gonna end this,’” she added on Wednesday, June 17.
Olivia Wilde reflects on advantage of co-parenting
Elsewhere during the podcast, Wilde, who met Sudeikis in 2011 before getting engaged to him in 2013, reflected on co-parenting.
The filmmaker told the host Alex Cooper, “I really value the opportunity to be completely present with them, and then to hand them off to a very capable co-parent who is very present with them when he's with them.”
Wilde also mentioned that co-parenting has helped her and her ex give the “best of us” to their children.
“I actually find this divvying up of responsibility in a way can allow for really amazing parenting because we are always at our best with our kids. I mean, we are great f*****g co-parents. These kids are consistently getting the best of us in a way that when we were together was not possible because we did not work together, but we work really well as separated co-parents,” she asserted.
