BUENOS AIRES, ARGENTINA: Nicole Scherzinger is mourning the death of Liam Payne, who died on October 16 at the age of 31 after reportedly falling from a balcony at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

On Friday, October 25, Scherzinger took to Instagram to share her sorrow and pay tribute to her late friend.

“Dear Liam, I will forever cherish and treasure the time we shared together, from fifteen years ago when One Direction was born, right up until just a few weeks ago,” wrote Scherzinger who is credited for the formation of One Direction alongside Simon Cowell.

Expressing gratitude for having reconnected with Payne recently, she added, “It was such a blessing to get to work with you recently. We shared the same love and passion for music and I will forever remember the meaningful and joyful conversations we had.”

Concluding her message with heartfelt words, Scherzinger wrote, “I will ‘miss you’ my friend and carry you in my heart. My thoughts and prayers are with your family.”

Liam Payne had recently been working alongside Nicole Scherzinger on the new Netflix series 'Building the Band', where they were both slated to serve as judges and mentors.

Following an autopsy, ABC News reported that multiple substances were found in Payne’s system, reported People.

On 'Good Morning America', Scherzinger spoke further about her heartbreak. “Liam and I were quite close, especially because we recently did a show on Netflix together called Building the Band," she said.

"And so, yeah, I’m heartbroken. I’m heartbroken for Liam, I’m heartbroken for his family and his loved ones and his friends,” she added, reflecting on Payne's tragic death.

“Liam always led with his heart and with kindness, and I really hope that’s how he’ll always be remembered,” she added.

Andrew Lloyd Webber opens up on Nicole Scherzinger’s 'amazing' resilience

Music composer Andrew Lloyd Webber shared an emotional revelation, disclosing that Nicole Scherzinger had been in contact with Liam Payne on the day he died.

Webber, who collaborated with Scherzinger for her performance in 'Sunset Boulevard', revealed, “On the Wednesday when he died, she was still texting him that day.”

Admiring Scherzinger’s resilience, he wrote, “And the fact that she even did the show at all is extraordinary. I mean, she is an amazing, amazing woman."

"She is without any question one of the finest performers I’ve ever worked with," he said in an interview with Billboard.
