‘One Mississippi’ star Tig Notaro reveals why she and wife Stephanie Allynne had a 'weird' pride month
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘One Mississippi’ star Tig Notaro shared that this year’s pride month was "a little weird" for her.
During her appearance on ‘The Late Show with Stephen Colbert', the comedian talked about her twin sons Max and Finn, and how they finally realized she and her wife Stephanie Allynne are gay.
“Pride month, I’ll be honest, it’s been a little weird. My wife and I found out recently that our sons didn’t know we were gay. They will be 8 this month,” Notaro responded to Colbert's question on how her pride month was going.
“Their school is six minutes away from our house, and at minute three we were in the front seat of the car talking about something about gay. Our son Finn leans forward and says, ‘You’re gay?’” she went on.
“I was so stunned because we’ve lived together almost eight years, and I’ve been gay the whole time — even prior!” Notaro joked. “So, I was like ‘Yes! We are.’ I was so shocked.”
Tig Notaro explained to her sons what's gay
Notaro talked about difficult conversations since they were almost about to reach school.
“We’re like three minutes now from the school, and I start explaining what gay is. And then while I was explaining it, I started getting insecure, thinking, what if he doesn’t like this?” she said.
Notaro quickly asked a question to know what her son Finn felt, “What do you think about what I just told you?”
“Oh I love my family,” he replied.

The couple tried to process the fact that their children didn’t know about their sexuality, per People.
“We drop them off at school and we’re like, ‘bye!’ and we truly drove off going like half-a-mile-an-hour, like ‘How on earth do our kids not know we’re gay?’ Because, dare I say, we’re also an iconic gay couple,” Notaro said.
“I realized that even though there’s pictures of our wedding day and they know they have two moms, that doesn’t mean they know what gay is," she added.

Internet's take on Tig Notaro's boys' first reaction on realizing their parents are gay
Netizens reflected on Notaro's story on her pride month, and if she should be "shocked" that her kids didn't know she was gay.
One person wrote on Facebook, “I absolutely love this… my kids don’t know us as straight… we are just mom and dad. Why should it be different for mom and mom.”
"I love Tig and her family stories, they seem like good (and funny) people,” a fan added.
A person expressed, “Ok. Well that was going to happen. As long as they are good parents and really love the boys . Everyone will be just fine.”
“Because they love their kiddos and didn’t see any reason to mention term gay. Instead they have a loving home and relationship and now kids are 8 figured it out and can now learn that that’s mom and mom…” one reflected.
Another reasoned, “Not that shocking if they're only 7. It's not like kids that age know anything about sexuality.”
