Phil Collins reveals he 'kissed and made up' with Paul McCartney after decades-long feud
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: It seems there is no bad blood between Phil Collins and Paul McCartney. At least, that’s what Collins has shared after a decades-long tiff with the Beatles legend.
During an appearance on a podcast, the 'In the Air Tonight' singer revealed that he said, “Sorry.” For those unaware, Collins’ bitter relationship with McCartney stemmed from a past encounter that he recalled as a not-so-good experience.
The issue occurred back in 2002, and after 24 years, it seems the two are finally ready to let go of the past hiccup. So much so that he went public about the incident while promoting his 2016 memoir.
Phil Collins reflects on decades-long feud with Paul McCartney
During an appearance on 'Piers Morgan Uncensored' on Friday, October 2, Collins opened up about his past feud with McCartney. Collins shared, “I said I was sorry because I really didn’t wish him to sort of... I mean, obviously this had been bugging him, because he likes to be liked, as we all do. Maybe him more than some others.”
“But we all like to be liked, I understand that. And we kissed and made up,” the 75-year-old added.
Previously, the 'Hey Jude' singer reached out to Collins via email to clear the air, but Collins said he never replied.
Later, McCartney contacted Collins again. Recalling the exchange, Collins said, “He said, ‘While we’re on the phone...’ And I thought, ‘Oh, here we go.’ He said, ‘What is this all about?’ I said, ‘I wish I’d never said it, Paul. I wish I’d never said it.’ He said, ‘I thought we were good.’ I mean, it’s not fair for me to tell you what he said to me, but that’s basically the gist of the conversation. So we kissed and made up.”
Collins shared with Billboard in 2016, “I certainly didn’t get any flowers from him; I got more of a ‘Let’s just get on with our lives.' If people don’t tell people that sometimes their attitude could be a bit better, then you’re not gonna get any better, y’know?”
What caused the tension between Phil Collins and Paul McCartney
The tension between McCartney, 84, and Collins, 75, began in 2002 at Queen Elizabeth II’s Golden Jubilee concert at Buckingham Palace when Collins asked McCartney to sign a Beatles book he owned.
“He said, ‘Oh yeah.’ And he probably didn’t mean it as it sounded, but he said (to then-wife Heather Mills), ‘He’s a big Beatles fan, is our little Phil?’” Collins recalled.
“And I thought, I probably made more of it than he meant, and I did make more of it,” he added. Well, this moment stayed with Collins for years and later became part of the story he shared publicly about his relationship with McCartney.
