Pollster Nate Silver says Joe Biden 'doesn't seem in command', urges him to resign from 2024 race
WASHINGTON, DC: Pollster Nate Silver is urging President Joe Biden to resign following his 22-minute interview with ABC.
The interview with ABC's George Stephanopoulos on Friday, July 5, was intended to calm critics of the president's candidacy following his shaky debate performance on June 27.
However, Silver claimed the interview made him look even worse.
Nate Silver says Joe Biden gave 'incoherent answer' during ABC interview
Speaking about how Biden described in the interview how he felt during the debate, Silver said, "This is a pretty incoherent answer including a non-sequitur [complaining] about a New York Times poll, which he incorrectly claims had him down 10 points before the debate (it was actually 3 or 4 points, depending on which version you look at)."
During the ABC interview, Biden claimed a mix of fatigue and illness led to his shaky debate performance that sparked concerns within the Democratic Party over his mental fitness and capability to serve another four-year term.
Silver revealed that he had "wimped out" and deleted a line from his morning column on Friday, July 5, about Biden's reelection campaign, urging the president to begin the transition of the election campaign to Vice President Kamala Harris.
However, after watching the ABC interview, the polling expert felt it was time to begin preparations for the Democratic Party for a new candidate.
"I wimped out in today’s column and deleted a line saying he should formulate a plan to transition the presidency to Harris within 30-60 days, but I’m there now. Something is clearly wrong here," said Silver.
"The most generous way to put it is that he doesn't seem in command, and that's an extremely hard sell when you're Commander in Chief," he continued.
Silver further noted that "Democrats will apply incredible amounts of pressure" to make Biden resign, according to USA Today.
Joe Biden asserts he is 'not leaving' the 2024 race
Despite the calls to quit, Biden said in the ABC interview, "If the Lord Almighty came down and said, ‘Joe, get out of the race,’ I’d get out of the race."
"The Lord Almighty’s not comin’ down," he added.
Biden's allies and the White House have also asserted that the president will continue his reelection campaign for the 2024 presidential race.
The 81-year-old politicial affirmed in a recent fundraising mail that nobody is “is pushing” him “out.”
“I’m the Democratic Party’s nominee. No one is pushing me out. I’m not leaving, I’m in this race to the end, and WE are going to win this election," he continued.
"If that’s all you need to hear, pitch in a few bucks to help [Vice President Harris] and me defeat Donald Trump in November," read the fundraising mail.
