WASHINGTON, DC: Vice President Kamala Harris found herself at the center of former President Donald Trump’s latest campaign offensive. On June 18, Trump’s team released an 82-second ad featuring Harris’ past speeches, aiming to highlight her tendency for rambling and repetitive statements.

The move marks a shift in focus for Trump’s campaign, which has mostly targeted President Joe Biden's verbal gaffes, suggesting the 81-year-old lacks the cognitive ability to serve another term.

Key moments highlighted in scathing ad

The ad, titled 'Inspiring Thoughts', opens with a clip from a March 2022 event in Louisiana. Harris repeatedly emphasizes the "significance of the passage of time," a phrase she uses four times in quick succession. The edited video strings together several instances where Harris seems to dwell on a single point without advancing her argument.

“We're talking about the significance of the passage of time, right? The significance of the passage of time,” Harris is shown saying. “So when you think about it, there is great significance in the passage of time in terms of what we need to do to lay these wires, what we need to do to create these jobs. And there is such great significance to the passage of time.”

The video continues by compiling quotes where Harris frequently uses the word "community" while discussing banks, and includes a January 2022 response regarding the Biden administration's COVID-19 strategy.

In that instance, Harris said, “It is time for us to do what we have been doing, and that time is every day. Every day it is time for us to agree that there are things and tools that are available to us to slow this thing down.”

The ad concludes with Harris stating, "I can imagine what can be and be unburdened by what has been," a phrase that has drawn mockery from Republicans who accuse her of being vague and repetitive. The clip fades out with audio of the veep's signature laugh.

The timing of the ad's release is noteworthy, coming just days after Harris publicly criticized Trump following his felony conviction for falsifying business records, Newsweek reported.

Speaking at an event in Detroit, Michigan on June 8, Harris stated, "Donald Trump openly tried to overturn the last election, and now he openly attacks the foundations of our justice system. Following his conviction in New York last month, Trump has been claiming the whole trial was rigged. False. You know why he complains? He complains because the reality is cheaters don't like getting caught."

Harris' approval ratings have been a persistent issue for the Biden administration. According to a USA TODAY/Suffolk University poll conducted last month, 52% of registered voters disapprove of Harris’ performance as Vice President, while only 36% approve. This contrasts with President Biden’s 41% approval rating.

In terms of personal popularity, Harris fares similarly poorly, with only 38% of Americans holding a favorable view of her, compared to 41% for Biden and 40% for Trump.

Democratic allies have long cautioned Biden’s team about the need to bolster Harris’ image amidst effective Republican attacks.

David Paleologos, director of the Suffolk University Political Research Center, told USA Today, “Usually, it's a secondary and muted discussion about vice presidents. This time, it's going to be almost a parallel and loud discussion in comparison.”

Kamala Harris mocked on social media following Donald Trump's montage

The Trump campaign's ad has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many mocking Harris for her rambling and repetitive remarks.

"My brain hurts listening to this," one posted on X.

"I have never seen such inspiration from such an inspiring figure who inspires me to inspire those who must be inspired and that will then create inspiration," another quipped.

"Chefala Harris serving up some gourmet word salad," someone else joked.

"We have a DEI VP. How did we get here?" a comment read.

"This was supposed to be Obama's protege. What an epic failure," another chimed in.
