SARASOTA, FLORIDA: Representative Greg Steube (R-Florida) is set to propose legislation on Friday, June 14, that aims to designate all US coastal waters in honor of Donald Trump, coinciding with the former president's 78th birthday.

"Donald John Trump Exclusive Economic Zone of the United States" is the new name for the US Exclusive Economic Zone proposed by the legislation.

The zone "extends no more than 200 nautical miles from the territorial sea baseline and is adjacent to the 12 nautical mile territorial sea of the US" and its territories, according to the National Ocean Service.

The United States has sovereign rights over conservation, exploitation, and exploration in this area.

Trump "cares about the strength and resilience of our oceans," according to Steube, who is introducing the bill, as he explained to Fox News Digital.

During his time as president, Donald Trump repealed more than 100 environmental laws, many of which had to do with the ocean.

“During his time in office, president Trump took several commendable actions for our oceans as part of his work to make America strong, secure, and economically prosperous,” Steube told Fox News.

He further added, “I’m honored to introduce legislation that will rename our coastal waters after President Trump and serve as a reminder of his many contributions to our nation for generations to come.”

Even if the House passes Steube's bill, it is unlikely to succeed in the Senate. Fox News reported that earlier this year, Rep Guy Reschenthaler (R-Pa) proposed legislation to rename Washington-Dulles International Airport after the former president.

In retaliation, Democrats introduced a bill to rename a federal prison in Florida after Trump, who faces a federal criminal indictment in the state.

The indictment accuses him of willfully retaining classified documents post-presidency and hindering the government's retrieval efforts. He has entered a plea of not guilty.

Internet believes Greg Steube's idea is 'so stupid'

As soon as Mediaite published the news on its platform, readers brutally slammed the idea in the comments section of the article.

One reader said, "This is so stupid, and a waste of Congressional time, resources, and taxpayer money."

Another added, "Republicans get more useless and idiotic by the day."

One commentator wrote, "A sewage pond would be more fitting."

Another called Trump a "loser" and said, "Name a swamp after that loser instead."

"Republicans are a sick and sad bunch! Trump is a 34 time convicted felon, only thing his name should be attracted too are prisons!" one individual commented.
