Ruby Rose reveals alleged texts from Hayden Panettiere about her estranged mother's 'cruelty'
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Ruby Rose recently shared alleged screenshots of text messages from Hayden Panettiere which the late actress appeared to discuss the pain she felt over her estranged mother Lesley Vogel's actions.
Rose's posts came after Vogel spoke about her daughter following Panettiere's death at 36. The actress had previously urged people to “wait” for more information and not jump to conclusions regarding Panettiere's death.
Ruby Rose shares alleged texts from Hayden Panettiere
Rose took to Threads on Wednesday, August 19, responding to a statement Vogel gave after her daughter's death. She shared an alleged text screenshot in which Panettiere appeared to describe the emotional impact of her mother's behavior.
The screenshot appeared to show 'Hayden' saved as the name on Rose's phone. The message Rose allegedly sent to Panettiere read, "Always struggle to separate from their parents. It’s an unnatural position to be placed in."
"They did not act or behave like mothers, so we are wounded from them, but the idea of a mother is still so powerful to us."
Days after Hayden Panettiere died at 36, her estranged mother told NBC News she had "sadly lost her way." Ruby Rose answered with screenshots she said came from Hayden: "I was sobbing over her cruelty yesterday thinking, my god I'm 36 and she can still cause this kind of pain." pic.twitter.com/IISFtRd4o2

Panettiere allegedly responded, "All of that lands."
She then allegedly wrote, "I was sobbing over her cruelty yesterday thinking, 'My god, I’m 36, and she can still cause this kind of pain." The message continued, “I’m her only child left, and this is how she wants to handle the situation?!”
The screenshot did not provide the full context of the conversation, and the date of the alleged text exchange was not mentioned. Rose has not publicly provided additional context about when the messages were exchanged.
Hayden Panettiere's relationship with her mother
Panettiere and Vogel had previously spoken publicly about their strained relationship. The late actress discussed her childhood and her mother's role in her career in her memoir, 'This Is Me: A Reckoning'.
Vogel managed Panettiere's acting career from infancy, and Panettiere wrote about growing up under the pressures that came with working in the entertainment industry. Her memoir described an environment shaped by contracts, business deals and expectations, rather than a typical carefree childhood.
Following the release of the memoir, Vogel pushed back against her daughter's account. She said she had experienced “20 years of trauma” and disputed Panettiere's characterization of their relationship.
Vogel also said she remained open to reconciliation with her daughter. However, the two did not publicly reconcile before Panettiere's death.
