NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Joe Scarborough, shocked by Fox's Rachel Campos-Duffy making a joke out of the violent attack on Paul Pelosi, wants her to "get fired" during a segment on the night of May 3.

To add context, Fox News host Rachel Campos-Duffy made a bizarre quip on May 3 about Pelosi after a colleague hypothesized about Presidential Medal of Freedom recipients awarded by a Democratic administration, saying about Pelosi—who was struck in the head with a hammer during a home invasion in 2022- "Maybe Pelosi needs the hammer instead of the medal.”

'Morning Joe' hosts call out Republicans' shift to 'cruelty'

Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski expressed disgust at Republicans resorting to "cruelty" as a sign of strength.

They then highlighted a recent Fox News segment where Campos-Duffy joked about Pelosi's assault during a home invasion in 2022.

Scarborough noted that such a remark would have led to consequences in the past, but it seems norms have shifted.

Scarborough kicked off the conversation by highlighting a disturbing aspect of contemporary politics, saying, "This really goes to, again, Republicans trying to be tough."

He raised the notion that, for some, cruelty has become a means to showcase strength, saying, "Cruelty actually is the point. That somehow cruelty shows toughness. There was a Fox News conversation this weekend that a lot of people were talking about where the brutalizing of Paul Pelosi, the brutalizing of a man in his 80s, was a punchline."

He continued, "And again, something that would have gotten, pre-Trump would have gotten anybody fired from any network anywhere would have we would have had… You know, we go back to even at the beginning of [former President] Donald Trump’s presidency when he attacked Mika, talking about “bleeding badly from a facelift.” You had a lot of Republicans had spoke out against him."

Brzezinski replied saying, "People were like, “No, that’s just… No," to which, Scarborough stated,  "You’ve gone a step too far, face-shaming, all this other stuff. We’ve gotten to a point where those boundaries are off, where somebody can laugh about Paul Pelosi. Because people in the audience, when Donald Trump makes fun of Paul Pelosi being brutalized and attacked and almost bludgeoned to death by a hammer–"

Brzezinski expressed her disbelief, stating, "Staggering," as Scarborough said, "People in the audience laugh and they applaud."

She then said, "So, this is normal now."

"It’s sick. I want you, I want you to see this, this clip. Here are two hosts joking about the brutal attack on Paul Pelosi that fractured his skull in 2022, while they were talking actually on air about the Presidential Medal of Freedom. I’m not sure how they got to laughing," Scarborough added.

Brzezinski responded, "Well, we’ll see," with Scarborough replying, "About an elderly man being almost beaten to death."

"In a home invasion," she concluded.
