“One year. Impossible. Laughing with you will always be what I remember most. I love you,” Paulson wrote in her Instagram post, marking a year since Keaton's death.
A week after her friend's passing, Paulson also spoke about her loss during an interview with Access Hollywood at the premiere of her series 'All's Fair' on October 16, 2025.
She admitted, “She was a very dear friend of mine, so it’s not something I’m able to talk about yet. I’m not able to talk about it.” She added that Keaton was even more spectacular as a person than audiences might have imagined based on her performances.
“I was the luckiest person in the world to have had her in my life the way that I did,” the actress said, appearing to tear up during the interview.
Paulson also honored Keaton on what would have been her 80th birthday on January 5, 2026, sharing a silhouette photograph of them together and a picture of the small “DK” tattoo in black ink on her wrist.
“You would have been 80 today,” Paulson wrote. She recalled travelling, laughing until they cried, watching movies, sharing tears and eating French fries with Keaton.
She described her as “Wondrous, singular, YOU” and said she would miss her “till the end of time.”
She also tagged Los Angeles-based tattoo artist Winterstone, whose real name is Daniel Winter, thanking him “for my forever reminder, of one of my forever people.”
Sarah Paulson and Diane Keaton’s decades-long friendship recalled
Paulson and Keaton met while filming the 1999 romantic comedy 'The Other Sister,' in which Keaton played Paulson's mother. The two subsequently developed a decades-long friendship.
Paulson remembered Keaton again at The Hollywood Reporter's Women in Entertainment gala in Los Angeles on December 3, 2025. During the event, she recited an email she wished she could send to her late friend.
“I want to tell you how much crummier the world is without you in it,” Paulson said, adding, “I want to tell you how the world lost its mind with grief the day you died.”
She also read several of Keaton's hilariously blunt text messages from over the years.
One message read, “Moron, what is your address?” Another said, “We are so fortunate. Do you love being an actress? I don’t.”
Many of Keaton's messages involved complaints about Paulson's full voicemail inbox, including one that read, “As usual, your voicemail is full. What makes you so popular?”
Keaton's children also remembered their mother on the first anniversary of her death.
Dexter shared a photograph from her wedding and wrote about missing everyday moments with her mother, including calling her, receiving hugs and going on adventures together.
“One year without you, mom. It somehow feels like yesterday and forever ago all at once,” Dexter wrote, adding that she loved and missed her mother always.
Keaton's son, Duke, also paid tribute on Instagram, writing, “I love you Mom Thinking of you every day.”
